BISMARCK, ND- The University of Mary kicked off homecoming week with a dominant victory over Minot State, three sets to none on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at McDowell Activity Center. Set scores were 31-29, 25-13 and 25-12 in favor of the Marauders.

Senior outside hitter Thayna Silva and junior outside hitter Lauren Randall led the way for Mary (7-5, 2-1 NSIC). Silva finished with 13 kills, five digs and a .276 hitting percentage. Randall recorded 13 kills, four digs and finished with a .242 hitting percentage.

Mary as a team finished with a .226 hitting percentage while the Beavers (5-7, 0-3 NSIC) had an embarrassing -.039 hitting percentage and 30 errors.

The first set was closer than the match as Mary had the Beavers buried in the middle of the set, leading 16-8 but MSU rallied together a comeback and trailed 24-18 late in the set. The Beavers scored the next seven points to take the 25-24 lead. The set continued on with MSU leading 29-28 but after two Randall kills and a Beaver attacking error, Mary took the set 31-29.

Mary led 14-8 in the second set and rattled off four straight points to take a 18-8 lead. The Beavers scored just five more points in the set as Mary used a few Randall kills and a Elizabeth Garcia kill to secure the 25-13 win.

The third and final set wasn't any kinder to MSU as Mary led 19-10 late in the set. Two Silva kills and a Rachel Astrup kill helped the Marauders finish out the match, taking the 25-12 set win.

Senior setter Janell Finkbeiner collected 29 assists for the match. Her sixth straight match with over 20-plus assists.

Astrup chipped in four kills and two blocks for the match as teammates Alex Brown, Finkbeiner and Geovana Almeida combined for 24 Marauder digs.

Silva and sophomore Elise Baumann led with two aces each and Garcia finished with a team-high six blocks.
Â
Brileigh Boyce and Emily Falldorf finished with five kills apiece for the Beavers.
Mary extends its winning streak to two matches and will host No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State Friday, Sept. 23.
