SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – In third place after the opening day, the University of Mary men's track & field team was unable to keep up that early pace but still finished the Northern Sun outdoor championships with the squad's highest point total since 2013. The Marauders generated 60 points to finish sixth out of 12 teams.
In his first NSIC outdoor conference championship event,
Teegan Olson claimed third in the 800 meter run. The freshman ran the event in 1:57.97. Also, senior
Nathan Inkman placed eighth with a mark of 2:03.23.
Running his final conference race, senior
Chris Jessop earned all-conference honors with a third place finish in the 5,000 meter run. The Corvallis, Montana, native was clocked in 15:04.75.
Right behind Jessop in the 5,000 was sophomore
Derek Myers, who crossed the line in 15.14.69
Thomas Neale closed out his outdoor track career with a fifth place finish in the steeplechase. He registered a time of 9:44.70 in the event.
The Marauders also placed a pair in the triple jump. Fresh off a third place mark in the long jump on Friday, freshman
Luxon Glor took fifth with a top effort of 14.23 meters. Additionally
William Kaigler took seventh with a top mark of 14.02 meters.
Rounding out the day's scoring for U-Mary was Joey Vrooman. The U-Mary junior and football player heaved the discuss 45.61 meters to place sixth.
Minnesota State won the men's title with 166.5 points. Augustana was second at 141.
