U-Mary Women's Tennis Ready for NSIC Tournament

MINNETONKA, Minn. - Gearing up for the NSIC Tournament, the University of Mary Women's Tennis team is set for their opening round match against Augustana University tomorrow afternoon.

The Marauders (6-10, 4-7 NSIC) closed out the season with a strong showing against Winona State University with a 7-2 win before falling to Upper Iowa University at 8-1 to clinch the eighth seed in the Northern Sun Tournament.

The Vikings (21-1, 11-0 NSIC) were nearly flawless over the regular season as they swept 10 of their conference matches at 9-0, including the match against the Marauders back on February 21.

U-Mary had a strong showing at the five singles matchup from Eileen Leong as she dropped a hard-fought first set at 7-5, but Christine Olivo clinched the match on the heels of a 6-0 second set win. Sarah Janes took the second singles spot against Sydney Postal but ultimately fell at a 6-2, 6-3 clip as the Viking wore down the Marauder throughout the match.

Janes finished with one of the best conference records on this Marauder squad at 7-4 in NSIC play, matched only by Catherine Gibbens as the tandem top the singles competition on a week-in, week-out basis for U-Mary.

Anastasia Bruss and Monica Benda own the best doubles record for the Marauders as they finished conference play with a 7-4 mark at three doubles with a handful of long points and comeback finishes.

U-Mary will have their hands full as six of the Vikings own at least 17 wins on the year, lead by Meredith Lawrence with a perfect 19-0 mark, followed closely Postal at 19-3. Lawrence is also half of the best doubles team for Augustana as she has paired up with Kaitlyn Motley for a perfect 21-0 mark on the year.

The teams last met each other in postseason play back in 2014 where U-Mary rode a nine-match winning streak to the NSIC Tournament Championship, but dropped the final match 5-0 to the Vikings.

The winner of the match will move on to face the winner of the match between Minnesota State University Moorhead and Minnesota State University on Sunday, April 24 at 8 AM CDT.
