MOORHEAD, Minn. - Getting the early jump on the 2016 season, the University of Mary Women's Tennis team will set their sights east to take on Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday, February 6, with the match starting at 1:30 PM.
Â
This will be the first match for the Marauders, while the Dragons take on Concordia College later today. U-Mary is under the direction of head coach
Vida Saliendra, who looks to make a strong return to the conference tournament in her fourth year at the helm of the women's tennis program.
Â
After making the conference tourney for two straight year, U-Mary was on the outside looking in after finishing 4-10, 2-8 NSIC on the year. The Marauders were hobbled by injuries through most of the season as they struggled to put together winning matches.
Â
The Dragons got the best of the Marauders in the 2015 season as MSU Moorhead paid a visit to Bismarck and took home the 8-1 final decision.
Kate O'Connell was the lone Marauder to claim victory in her matchup against Cassie Smith as O'Connell dropped the first set but bounced back in the next two for the win.
Â
Sarah Janes did not participate in last year's match and will look to provide the spark for U-Mary as they begin their trek back to the postseason, while
Catherine Gibbens,
Anastasia Bruss,
Meredith Holt, and
Eileen Leong saw extended action throughout the season and will look to leverage their experience for the victory.
