FARGO, N.D. - Taking on their last conference opponents before spring break, the University of Mary Women's Tennis team will have a pair of neutral site matches this weekend as they take on Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University starting on Saturday, February 27, at 3 PM.
Â
Last week, the Marauders (1-4, 1-4 NSIC) dropped their first match in four years to the University of Sioux Falls, and couldn't stop Augustana University on the following day. The Mustangs (0-6, 0-5 NSIC) have yet to earn their first win as they dropped a pair of matches last week to Winona State University and Upper Iowa University, while the Mavericks (4-3, 3-2 NSIC) split with the win against Winona State but fell to Upper Iowa.
Â
U-Mary had strong outings against Sioux Falls from
Sarah Janes and
Catherine Gibbens as Janes defeated Joey Wenbord (6-1, 6-2) while Gibbens fought back against Alison Kauss for the win (3-6, 6-2, 10-5), but ultimately fell in the match as the Cougars got the doubles sweep and cruised to four wins in the remaining singles matches. Unfortunately, the Marauders failed to find a winning combination against the Vikings as Augustana took the second match at 9-0.
Â
Next week, the Marauders will pay a visit to Florida, starting with a match against Rollins College on March 1, in Winter Park, Fla., starting at 2 PM, before taking on Augustana College (IL) on March 2, in Orlando, Fla., starting at 5:30 PM, Otterbein University on March 3 at 3 PM, and will wrap up the trip on March 4 with a match against Ave Maria University at 10:30 AM
