MOORHEAD, Minn. - With 4:17 left in the second quarter,
Hannah Larson scored her 1,000 career point in a Blue and Orange uniform, however, the University of Mary lost to Minnesota State University Moorhead, 82-59 Friday, Dec. 2 at the Nemzek Fieldhouse.
Larson scored a team-high 15 points and shot 50 percent from the field but the Dragons shot 61.1 percent from the three-point line in the first half to win its fifth straight game and second straight Northern Sun game.Â
Larson now has 1,010 points in her career and moves into 16th place for all-time scoring leaders in Mary history. Larson is 65 points behind Ali Collins who is in 15th place with 1,075 career points.
The Marauders (6-4, 1-1 NSIC) outscored the Dragons 30-14 in the paint but MSUM scored 16 second chance points and used 17 bench points compared to Mary's eight to secure the victory.
After sinking five first quarter three-pointers, the Dragons (5-1, 2-0 NSIC) ended the quarter on an 11-0 run and took a 26-16 lead.
The three-point shooting continued for the home team in the second quarter and the Marauders were outscored 30-15 in the quarter to fall behind, 56-31 at halftime.
After shooting 64.0 percent from the field in the first half, Mary held the Dragons to 37.9 percent from the floor and 11.1 percent from beyond the arc in the second half.
After giving up 56 first half points, the Marauders played better defensively in the second half and even outscored MSUM 28-26 in the final two quarters.
But Drew Sannes of MSUM scored a game-high and career-high 32 points and 15 rebounds to help the Dragons win its NSIC home opener.
Gabbie Bohl scored 13 points in 23 minutes of play for Mary as teammate
Dani Williams was the third and final Marauder to score in double-figures as she finished with 10 points and dished out two assists.
Lauren Rotunda finished 3-for-6 from the field and scored eight points but
Cassie Askvig,
Christal Hearn,
Sawyer Kluge and
Isabel Schmelzer finished a combined 3-for-15 for the Marauders.
With the loss the Marauders had its five-game winning streak snap but is scheduled to lace up the shoes Saturday, Dec. 3 against Northern State (5-1, 1-1 NSIC) with the tip-off set for 4 p.m. inside Wachs Arena.
