ABERDEEN, S.D. - The University of Mary women's basketball team was outscored 34-18 in the second half and the Northern State Wolves capitalized on a big second half to defeat the Marauders, 59-38 Saturday, Dec. 3 at Wachs Arena in front of 2,812 spectators.
The Marauders (6-5, 1-2 NSIC) never led in the game but after a three-point shot by
Lauren Rotunda, Mary trailed 23-20 late in the second quarter and that was the closest the visiting team ever got to catching the Wolves.
NSU (6-1, 2-1 NSIC) opened up the third quarter with an 11-4 run and never looked back as the home team shot 42.9 percent from the field in the second half.
The Marauders struggled from the three-point line and shot just 11.1 (2-for-18) percent from beyond the arc and finished 4-for-20 (20.0 percent) from the floor in the second half.
Mary was led offensively by
Hannah Larson as she scored a team-high 12 points and hauled down nine rebounds and blocked two NSU shots.
Lauren Rotunda added nine points for the Blue & Orange and teammate
Gabbie Bohl chipped in eight points, two blocks and one assist.
The Marauders committed 19 turnovers, the most in its last three games and the Wolves scored 18 points off the Mary mistakes.
Mary scored two more second chance points then NSU but the Wolves outscored the Marauders in the paint, 26-22 and had 11 steals.
Mary ends its two-game road trip, 0-2 but will be back in action Friday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. inside the McDowell Activity Center against Wayne State College.
