BISMARCK, N.D. - The University of Mary committed a season-high 30 turnovers and was outscored 40-27 in the second half as the Wayne State Wildcats won its first Northern Sun contest, 63-47 Friday, Dec. 9 at the McDowell Activity Center in front of 1,021 spectators.

The Marauders (6-6, 1-3 NSIC) received a team-high 13 points from
Gabbie Bohl as freshman teammate
Cassie Askvig poured in 11 points and hauled down nine rebounds.

However, the turnovers committed by Mary turned into 28 Wildcat points, over half of them came in the second half.

The Marauders had its largest lead of the game, 3-0 with 9:48 left in the first quarter after an early three-pointer by
Rachel Weir.
Â
In the last three games Mary has gone 7-for-48 from beyond the arc but against the Wildcats the Marauders finished 3-for-8 as WSC went 7-for-28 from the three-point line.

However, three of those seven shots came in the third quarter that sparked a 10-4 run after Haley Moore and Maggie Schulte banged home back-to-back threes for WSC.

After trailing 23-20 at the half, Mary found themselves down 46-34 with just under a minute to play after Evelyn Knox knocked down the Wildcats (6-3, 1-3 NSIC) third and final three of the quarter. The Marauders were outscored 23-14 in the quarter to fall behind by 12.

The Marauders tried to claw back in the final quarter after a
Gabbie Bohl jumper with 9:20 left in the quarter but a Wildcat 8-2 run over the next 3:48 and WSC took a 57-38 lead that put Mary away for good.

The Wildcats shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half compared to Mary's 32.1 percent and WSC held the 37.7 - 34.8 shooting percentage from the field for the game.

Weir added eight points for the Marauders on 3-of-4 shooting as she also dished out two assists and finished with two blocks as teammate
Lauren Rotunda also added seven of her own.

The Marauders held the 12-7 advantage on second chance points but was outscored 31-15 on bench points and 28-20 in paints in the paint.

WSC was led by Anna Martensen and Maggie Lowe who both scored 12 points as Martensen hauled down seven rebounds as the Wildcats finished with 18 team assists and 23 total made shots.

Mary will host Augustana Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. inside the McDowell Activity Center. The Vikings are coming off an 85-64 win against Minot State.
