Marauders Travel to Presentation College, Host Lake Superior State in Home Opener

The Schedule
The University of Mary women's basketball team returns to action Saturday afternoon, as the Marauders visit Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D. and on Sunday, starting a 1 p.m., the Marauders host Lake Superior State in its 2016-2017 home-opener at the McDowell Activity Center. Marauder fans can check out goumary.com/coverage for live stats, audio and video of both non-conference games. It'll be the first time that Mary plays either of these two teams. The PC Saints are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and are a member of the North Star Athletic Association. The LSS Lakers are part of Division-II and are a member of the Great Lakes Intercolleigate Athletic Conference.

Last Time Out
The Marauders are coming off an impressive 66-62 win over Washburn on Saturday. Mary outscored the Ichabods 37-28 in the second half and shot 48 percent from the floor to claim the non-conference victory. Hannah Larson and Cassie Askvig scored in double-figures for the Marauders and combined for 38 points. Larson finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, four blocks and two steals. It was her second double-double of the year. For the third straight game Askvig reached double-figures in scoring. Against WU she finished with 19 points and made five of her six shots. This season, Askvig is averaging 9.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 1.0 apg. She'a also shooting at a high rate including 56 percent from the floor.

Home Openers
Sunday's game against the Lakers will be the home-opener for Mary. The Marauders are  8-2 in home games dating back to 2006 and lost last season's home-opener to WU, 63-50 in front of 780 spectators at the McDowell Activity Center.

Magic Number
49 - The Marauders are 49-9 when they score 80 points or more in a game dating back to 2006. Mary is 1-0 this season scoring 80 points or more.

Scouting the Saints
Presentation College is 0-4 this season and is being outscored 67.8 to 54.0 to its opponents. The Saints are led by junior forward Macy Toelle who is averaging 16.5 points per game while playing 30.0 minutes per contest. Toelle is the only student-athlete for PC that averages more than eight points per game. She also is hauling down 3.8 rebounds per game and is shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc.Freshman forward Allison Cox is second on the team, averaging 8.0 point per game, however, she's only played two games this season. Senior forward Kenyetta Fugate has played in all four games this season for the Saints but hasn't start in any of them but she is averaging 6.0 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game and she's shooting 35 percent from the field. Senior forward Sydney Larson leads the team in rebounds with a total of 36 including five offensive rebounds. On the year she is averaging 9.0 rebounds per game and 6.0 points per game. The Saints are being outscored 80-51 in the first quarter and are shooting 32 percent from the floor.

Recent History: Since joining Division-II, the Marauders have never faced the  Saints on the basketball court.

Scouting the Lakers
Lake Superior State 1-2 this season and is coming off a 112-53 win over Grace Bible (Michigan). The Lakers are scoring 76.0 points per game and shooting 42 percent from the floor. LSS is also shooting well from beyond the three-point line, as the team is shooting 45 percent from beyond the arc. The Lakers are led offensively by Mackenzie Edwards and Claire Radtke. Edwards is averaging 15.3 points per game this season, 5.3 rebounds per game and 3.3 assists per game. Radtke is averaging 12.0 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game and 1.7 assists per game. Ten Lakers are averaging at least five points per game this season. This season five of the top seven players who are averaging at least 15 minutes per game are under classmen. Sophomore guard, Valerie Meissner who averages a team-high 31.0 minutes per game also leads the team in assists with 6.0 a game. Her assist to turnover ratio is just under 10. And Edwards leads the team in steals with 2.3 a game.

Recent History: This will be the first time in the Division-II era that the Marauders and Lakers have played.
