BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary women's basketball team makes its 2016-17 season debut when the Marauders host the University of Jamestown in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Tip off at the McDowell Activity Center is set for 6 pm.
The Marauders finished last season 15-16 overall and 9-13 in the Northern Sun. While Mary lost All-American and the school's all-time leading scorer in
Brittney Dietz, the squad returns three starters and six letter winners.
Senior forward
Hannah Larson earned All-Northern Sun second team and all-defensive team accolades last season after averaging 13.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 blocks per game. A starter since day one at Mary, the Bismarck, ND, native has already scored 874 points in her career.
Other returning starters for the Marauders are guards
Rachel Weir, a senior from Fargo, ND, and
Dani Williams, a junior from Gillette, WY. Weir averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds/game. Williams scored 10.2 points/game and distributed 2.3 assists.
The preseason favorite to win the North Star Athletic Association, the Jimmies are 1-1 this season.
Mary opens the regular season in East Orange, CA, against 4
th ranked West Texas A&M on Nov. 4. After six road games the Marauders open the home schedule against Lake Superior State on Nov. 20.
Game tickets are available at the gate for all sports. Adult tickets are $10 while seniors (ages 60 ), college students and youth 18 years old and younger are $4. Mary students with their M-card and children 5 and under are free.
