Marauders Headed South to take on Vikings and Wildcats

This Week: The University of Mary Women's Basketball team remains on the road and will head south this weekend for a Saturday/Sunday game schedule. U-Mary will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., on Saturday, January 30, to take on Augustana University, before making the trek to Wayne, Neb., to compete against Wayne State College on Sunday, January 31.

The Records: The Marauders split last weekend's games to remain at .500 with a loss to St. Cloud State University, but fought hard for the fourth quarter comeback against the University of Minnesota Duluth to stay at 11-11, 5-9 NSIC, on the year. The Vikings own a 15-5, 9-5 NSIC, record on the year after splitting their contests last week with a loss to Winona State University, but bounced back with a win over Upper Iowa University. The Wildcats had a six-game winning streak snapped as they fell to Upper Iowa and couldn't recapture success as they lost to Winona State as well, putting their record at 11-8, 8-6 on the year.

Last Week: U-Mary appeared to be riding high from their upset win over Winona State and stuggled to get the offense going against the Huskies to start off last weekend. The Marauders shot 30.8% from the floor in the game and faced a double-digit defecit by the end of the first half at 32-22. Their shooting woes continued at the start of the third quarter as St. Cloud State built their lead up to 43-25 by the 5:07 mark of the frame and by the time U-Mary had their offense in gear the game was beyond reach. The Huskies held a 57-39 lead heading into the fourth and matched the Marauders shot-for-shot for the eventual 70-51 win. Brittney Dietz moved up to sixth on U-Mary's all-time scoring list as she finished with 17 points to bring her total to 1,624 after the game. Dani Williams added nine points and Hannah Larson did most of her work in the paint as she ended with 11 rebounds and eight points. U-Mary then took on the Bulldogs and had most of their offensive problems solved as they held an 18-16 lead by the end of the first quarter but the Bulldogs fought back for a 32-26 advantage by the end of the first half. The Marauders' offense hit another snag as they briefly held the lead at 35-34 by the 3:09 mark of the third before failing to record a point the rest of the way, but the defense came to life and limited Minnesota Duluth to three points in the fourth quarter to mount the comeback on a 19-3 run to claim the victory at 54-44. Larson notched her seventh double-double of the year with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Williams added 15 points of her own and Dietz recorded 13.

Next Week: U-Mary will return home next week as they host Minnesota State University on Friday, February 5, before taking on Concordia University-St. Paul on Saturday, February 6.

History: The Marauders are 1-9 all-time against the Mavericks with the lone win back in 2011 and are currently on a five-game losing streak. U-Mary is 4-10 all-time against the Golden Bears and have lost three straight dating back to 2013.
