BROOKINGS, S.D. – Two school records, a pair of first place finishes and multiple national provisional qualifying marks highlighted the University of Mary men's and women's track & field team's effort at the Jim Emmerich/Alumni Invitational.
Breaking his own school record,
Chris Jessop placed fourth in the 3,000 meter run. The senior from Corvallis, Mont., covered the distance in 8:34.51.
William Kaigler was the Marauders top finisher on the day, placing second in the triple jump. The senior from Tracy, Calif., exploded for a top effort of 47' 3.75". His second best effort of the year is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Kevin Carpenter took sixth in the 3,000 meter run, two places behind Jessop, with a clocking of 8:45.51.
In the high jump,
Dustin Rueb cleared the bar at 1.95 meters to place fourth. He also took eighth in the long jump.
Riley Miller led the Marauders efforts in the long jump, taking fifth overall with a distance of 6.69 meters.
Coming in two slots after Kaigler in the triple jump,
Beau Nutting placed fourth with a top effort of 13.31 meters.
All-American Alexis Zeis dominated the 3,000 meter run. Her effort of 9:35.93 won the event by 8.54 seconds and set a school record, a meet record and a facility record. The time is also an NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying mark for last week's NSIC track athlete of the week.
Also claiming a title was sophomore Tonie-Ann Pandohie. The Kingston, Jamaica, native claimed first on the 60 meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.73 seconds.
Davina Carr, who owns the nation's best effort in the pole vault, placed third in her specialty. The All-American claimed third with a provisional qualifying effort of 12' 11.5".
In the high jump, senior Molly McDonald cleared the bar at 5' 5". The Lakewood, Colo., native placed seventh with a provisional qualifying mark.
In the 600 meter run, Josie Guptill placed second in a time of 1:37.67.
The Marauders next compete at the Concordia Invitational in Moorhead, Minn., on January 30.
