Marauders Host Simon Fraser and Western Washington for Homecoming Weekend

This Week: The University of Mary Men's Soccer team continues their conference schedule this week when they host Simon Fraser University on Thursday, September 24 at 8 PM, and Western Washington University on Saturday, September 26, at 5 PM

Coverage: Live stats will be available at goumary.com/coverage

SFU: The Clan have stumbled a bit out of the gate despite being one of the top teams in conference in 2014. Owning a 1-1-2, 0-0-1 GNAC record, Simon Fraser has lost to Sonoma State University 3-1, drew against California Baptist 1-1, defeated Cal State San Bernardino 3-0 and drew in their first conference match against Western Washington 2-2. #6 Adam Jones and #19 Kyle Jones lead the way with two goals apeice while Adam adds one assist to his total for seven points. Three other Clan players have recorded a goal on the season as Simon Fraser has done a good job of spreading the offense out. #22 Brandon Watson has played every game in the keeper's box for Simon Fraser and he has responded with seven saves and six goals allowed for a .538 save percentage. As a team, Simon Fraser has outshot their opponents 76-34, including a 45-16 mark in the second half, as the Clan heavily rely on their defense to keep the pressure on their opponent's half of the pitch. The Marauders will need their defense on point and a good transition game in order to keep the Clan off-balance and on the defensive to pull away with the win.

WWU: The Vikings have experience varying degrees of success as they own a 2-1-2, 0-0-1 GNAC record on the year so far with wins over Univ. of California, San Diego and Cal State East Bay, a loss from Notre Dame de Namur, and draws against Simon Fraser and Cal State Los Angeles. Western Washington relies on a slew of attackers to keep the ball moving on the offense as six players have recorded one goal each. #13 Jeremy Wentzel has done a good job of keeping the offense going with three assists on the year so far in five starts.#1 Tyler Visten has started every match in goal for the Vikings and he has done a tremendous job keeping the matches close as he has allowed only five goals while making 26 saves for a .839 save percentage. As a team, the Vikings have been outshot by their opponents 81-39, suggesting the Marauders will have plenty of opportunities to take their shots.

Next Week: The Marauders will head out on the road next week when they visit Nampa, Idaho, to take on Northwest Nazarene University and will follow that up with a trip to Portland, Oregon, to take on GNAC newcomer Concordia University (Ore.).

Last Week: U-Mary fell into an early hole against Montana State University Billings as the Yellowjackets scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute and unfortunately the Marauders never recovered. Christoffer Nogueira led the offense with three shots and the only shot on goal for U-Mary in the match that came in the first half on a corner kick attempt. The agression was apparent as both teams received two cautions despite the Yellowjackets having committed more fouls thatn the Marauders. The floodgates opened in the second half as the Yellowjackets scored three more goals en route to a 4-0 decision with two of the goals coming off disputed attempts.
