Men's Soccer Headed to Billings for 2015 Rimrock Classic

This Week: The University of Mary Men's Soccer team is on the road once again for neutral site matches against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on Friday, September 11, followed by a match against Carroll College (Mont.) on Sunday, September 13.

Coverage: Live stats will be available at goumary.com/coverage

SDSMT: The Hardrockers are no longer a part of the GNAC as they made the switch to the RMAC for the 2015 season. For the year so far, South Dakota School of Mines has lost both matches, first a 3-0 loss to the University of Illinois-Springfield, and another 3-0 loss to Maryville University. The Hardrockers are led by Lane Schroeder who has taken four shots on the year, all on goal, to spearhead the offense. Cody Wellman also aids the attack with two shots, all on goal, but the Hardrockers have yet to find the back of the net in two games. Jack Seifert has started both matches as the keeper and has made 12 saves while allowing six goals. As a team, the Hardrockers have allowed an average of 13.5 shots per game and 16 total corner kicks on the year while only take 11 shots per game and six total corner kicks. They are well-disciplined, however, as their opponents have received four cautions to the Hardrocker's one caution. U-Mary will need to be better disciplined and make the corner kicks count.

CARROLL COLLEGE: The Fighting Saints are 2-1 on the year so far with wins against Westminster College and the University of Lethbridge, and their lone loss coming against The Master's College. Jose Porras leads the charge with four goals and one assist for nine points on the year so far. Of his 18 shots, eight have been on goal and he has one recorded gamewinner on the year. Jake Gilberston and Chris Brayton will help Porras as both players have recorded one goal with no assists. Conor Smith will get the start in the keeper's box as he has started all three games on the year so far, allowing 3 goals while making eight saves for a .727 save percentage. As a team, the Fighting Saints have allowed 11 shots while taking 14.7 of their own per game, and they have taken 15 total corner kicks while only allowing nine corner kicks to their opponents. U-Mary will need to keep the pressure on the offensive half of the pitch while using their stout defense to neutralize the Fighting Saint's primary point of attack.

Next Week: The Marauders open up their conference schedule, and their home schedule, with a match against Montana State University Billings at the MDU Resources Bowl on Saturday, September 19, at 3 pm.

Last Week: U-Mary stumbled out of the gate to start the season as they lost to Maryville University and the University of Illinois-Springfield at the 2015 Jamboree in Des Moines, Iowa. The Marauders took on Maryville on the first day and fell 2-1 to the Saints despite U-Mary notching the first goal of the game in the 14th minute. The second game was an even bigger heartbreaker as the Marauders took on the Prairie Stars and fell 2-1 in overtime in the 102nd minute after notching the tying goal in the 31st minute of the match. The Marauders have done a good job of keeping the offensive pressure up but haven't been able to keep the momentum going in the second half.
