FARGO, N.D. – Big performances by
Aaron Teigen and
Jay Cooper keyed the University of Mary men's outdoor track & field team efforts at the Lyle Hokenson Classic. Both performers registered national qualifying marks while Teigen won two of the Marauders three titles on the day.
Doing as he has at most meets this season, Teigen captured both the long jump and the triple jump. The senior from Rugby, N.D., leaped an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 14.86 meters in the triple jump. He won the long jump with an attempt of 6.90 meters.
Cooper, who has been peaking recently, cleared the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 52.69 meters. It was another provisional mark for the sophomore from Rapid City, S.D. Cooper also placed second in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.91 seconds.
Dustin Rueb claimed the Marauders third title of the day. The junior from Beulah, N.D., cleared 1.96 meters in the high jump for the victory. He later took third in the long jump.
In the 1,500 meter run,
Steven Gordon took second with a recording of 4:00.44.
Placing right behind Teigen in the triple jump was
William Kaigler, recording a distance of 14.2 meters to finish second.
Part of the Marauders squad will compete at the MSU Moorhead Ron Masanz Open on Saturday, May 2, before Mary attends the Northern Sun outdoor championship on May 8-9.
