Marauders Open Up 2015 NSIC/US Bank Women's Tennis Tournament Against Upper Iowa

MINNETONKA, Minn. - Heading into the postseason conference tournament, the University of Mary Women's Tennis team is looking to build on a solid end to their regular season. After securing the seventh seed by owning the tiebreaker over Winona State University, U-Mary will be taking on second seed Upper Iowa University in the opening round of the 2015 NSIC/US Bank Women's Tennis Tournament.

Winning three of their last four matches, the Marauders (5-10, 5-6 NSIC) are looking to build on their momentum from the last two weeks of the regular season where they went 3-1 with wins over the University of Minnesota Crookston, Bemidji State University, and Winona State.

In conference, Courtney Brackin and Meredith Holt lead the Marauders as they both have 7-4 records against their Northern Sun foes.

Brackin was the lone Marauder to win her matchup against the University of North Dakota, but powered U-Mary to their three wins as she has won seven straight conference matches. Six of her victories came in straight sets while her only three set victory came in a super tiebreaker over Kelly Jachymowski from Upper Iowa.

Holt has won several key matches for the Marauders as she won the deciding matchup at the number three singles spot against Caley Westin from Bemidji State. With the match tied at 4-4, Holt took the first set from Westin 6-3 only to have Westin bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second set. The super tiebreaker between the two players wasn't decided after 10, since Holt won the matchup 12-10 in the final set, but her match was the deciding factor for the Marauders against the Beavers.

Holt was also part of the deciding factor in U-Mary's match against the University of Sioux Falls earlier in the season as she defeated Stacey Beard in three sets after falling in the first, 6-2, but rebounding with wins in the second and final sets, 7-5 and 10-6.

Along with Brackin and Holt, Anastasia Bruss and Catherine Gibbens will look to provide a solid matchup for U-Mary against the Peacocks. Both players have finished 5-6 on the year in individual matchups with Bruss winning three out of her last four and Gibbens looing to capitalize on her early season success.

The Marauders will also have Sarah Janes and Eileen Leong rounding out the singles matches, Janes has been battling a back injury from earlier in the year and should come out firing on all cylinders after two week's rest, while Leong has provided a spark in the lineup as a true freshman for U-Mary.

On the doubles side, the Marauders will get help from junior Kate O'Connell who, along with Bruss, provides a solid matchup at the number three doubles spot for the U-Mary. The duo has won four out of their last five doubles matches in the NSIC with every win decided by at least four sets.

The match against Upper Iowa is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at 9:00 AM, at the Lifetime Fitness Oakdale in Minnetonka, Minn.
