GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Returning to the clear skies of North Dakota, the University of Mary Women's Tennis team took on the University of Minnesota Crookston on a neutral site court today to begin the final stretch of conference play for the Marauders.
Â
The two-week break had little effect on U-Mary (3-9, 3-5 NSIC) as they swept the Golden Eagles (0-11, 0-7 NSIC) in the match 9-0, with the Marauders earning shutouts in six of the nine matchups.
Â
Sarah Janes and
Catherine Gibbens earned the start at the number-one doubles matchup and they cruised to an 8-0 victory over Catherine Brown and Whitney Erickson.
Â
Following suit at the number-two spot in the doubles matchup,
Meredith Holt and
Courtney Brackin, who was filling in for an injured
Eileen Leong, took on Christina Smith and Nikki Dogan, with the Marauder duo coming away with an 8-0 win.
Â
Rounding out the doubles matchups,
Anastasia Bruss and
Kate O'Connell took on Rachelle Alcini and Chelsea Burrows at the number-three doubles spot, and the Golden Eagle pair had no answer for the Marauders as U-Mary came away with another 8-0 win.
Â
Carrying the momentum into the singles matchups, Janes took on Brown in the number-one spot and Janes earned the two-set victory 6-1 and 6-3 for her third win of the season.
Â
Up next at the number-two spot was Gibbens as she took on Erickson. Gibbens came away with the win in back-to-back sets, 6-2 and 6-1.
Â
U-Mary found a groove starting at the number-three spot as Holt defeated Smith without giving up a single game, 6-0 and 6-0; the number-four spot was similar as Bruss defeated Dogan 6-0 and 6-0; and O'Connell, filling in for Leong in the singles matchups, defeated Alcini in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0.
Â
Rounding out the Marauders single matchups, Brackin defeated Burrows while only giving up one game to the Golden Eagle, 6-0 and 6-1.
Â
U-Mary will have one more match in Grand Forks tomorrow at 9 AM when they take on Bemidji State University.
