BISMARCK, N.D. - After a two-week hiatus from the court, the University of Mary Women's Tennis team resumes their regular season tomorrow with NSIC matches against the University of Minnesota Crookston on March 27, and Bemidji State University on March 28; both matches will be played in Grand Forks, N.D.
Â
The Marauders (2-9, 2-5 NSIC) are looking to bounce back from a weather-stricken trip down to Oklahoma, where they fell to Cameron University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University and East Central University, and a loss to Division-I opponent University of North Dakota after returning from spring break.
Â
U-Mary has faced some tough competition, but the team has had a few individuals that have shined through.
Sarah Janes, who missed the first four matches of the season, has been back in the lineup and producing wins when the matches haven't been shortened by weather. Janes owns a 2-1 record in conference matches and is looking to continue that momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
Â
Courtney Brackin has been getting the start the number six singles spot for U-Mary and she has responded well with a 4-6 overall record as a true freshman. She was the lone Marauder to get a victory in her matchup against UND as she defeated Katie Sween after going to super tiebreaker.
Â
Catherine Gibbens and
Meredith Holt also own winning records in conference as both have gone 4-3 in NSIC matches.
Â
Gibbens has victories over her opponents from St. Cloud State University, Southwest Minnesota State University, University of Sioux Falls, and University of Minnesota Duluth, and came up just short against Minnesota State University as she fell in the super tiebreaker set.
Â
Meanwhile, Holt has wins over Southwest Minnesota, Minnesota State, Sioux Falls, and Duluth on the year while splitting time between the numbers two, three, and four singles spot.
Â
The Golden Eagles (0-10, 0-6 NSIC) have yet to find their first victory on the year, so the Marauders will need a solid outing, both physically and mentally, in order to secure the victory.
Â
The Beavers (2-7, 1-6 NSIC) are also struggling through their schedule, but they do have victories over Minnesota Crookston and Martin Luther College. If the Marauders can play up to their usual levels, then they should come away with a victory over Bemidji State.
