GRAND FORKS, N.D. - After having to deal with inclement weather over the past week, the University of Mary Women's Tennis team will have clear skies when they travel to Grand Forks, N.D., to take on the University of North Dakota. It will be the first match in 10 days for the Marauders after taking on East Central University back on March 3.
Â
The past week turned out rougher than usual for U-Mary (2-8, 2-5 NSIC) as the weather shortened two of the matches and outright cancelled another. The Marauders handily defeated Southwest Minnesota State University on February 28, but lost to Minnesota State University and went a combined 0-3 against the teams in Oklahoma.
Â
Not everyone had a chance to complete their round as the matches against Southeastern Oklahoma State University and East Central were called after the fifth deciding result. U-Mary ended up falling to Southeastern Oklahoma State and East Central 5-0.
Â
Individually, however,
Courtney Brackin and
Meredith Holt had the best weeks as they both came away with two wins over the course of five contests despite Holt only completing three and Brackin only completing four.
Â
Brackin defeated Andrea Erdman from Minnesota State in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-4, and followed that performance up with a straight set victory over Nicole McQueen, 6-1 and 6-4.
Â
Holt got her first victory over Sarah McCann from Minnesota State in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-4, and got her second singles win over Katie Kienitz from Southwest Minnesota State in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-2. Meredith also won a doubles match with
Eileen Leong against the duo of Mariya Krumm and Crystal Overbaugh from Southwest Minnesota State, 8-3.
Â
The doubles team of
Anastasia Bruss and
Kate O'Connell proved difficult for teams to deal with as they won two matches over the course of the week. First they defeated Erdman and Lisa Dobbelaere from Minnesota State, 8-4, before trouncing the duo of McQueen and Ashley Hoehne from Southwest Minnesota State, 8-2. Bruss also defeated Krumm from Southwest Minnesota State in the singles matchup in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1.
Â
The University of North Dakota (4-9, 1-4 Big Sky) has already faced another Northern Sun team earlier in the year, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and won that match with a 7-0 sweep. They'll take on the Marauders in the second match of the day for them after hosting Southern Utah University.
