Second Half Offensive Power Outage Dooms Marauders in Loss to Golden Bears

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A second half offensive power outage by the University of Mary allowed homestanding Concordia – St. Paul to create separation in a 75-64 Golden Bears win over the Marauders.
 
On a night U-Mary's starters scored a combined 21 points, the Marauders shot only 33 percent after intermission and scored just 27 second half points. During one ten minute stretch, the Marauders posted just ten points while the Golden Bears built a 16 point lead.
 
A tight game throughout the first half, a Damonta Henry three-pointer gave the Marauders a 35-32 with 1:54 left before intermission. The lead was short-lived as the Golden Bears went on a 6-2 run to snare a 38-37 lead they would not relinquish.
 
Twice Germain Decoste baskets pulled the Marauders within a point of the Golden Bears in the second half, the last time at 44-43. A 12-3 outburst by the Golden Bears immediately followed, featuring five points and two blocks by Cole Olstad, and pushed Concordia to its first double digit lead of the evening. The Marauders would crawl within seven points before the Golden Bears eventually grew their lead to as many as 16 points.
 
Led by Jaycob Velasco and Henry, the Marauders bench scored 43 points in the game. The duo combined for nine treys and 35 points.
 
Velasco paced U-Mary with 19 points, including a 5-of-10 mark behind the arc. He also had three rebounds.
 
Henry posted 16 points and knocked down 4-of-6 trey attempts. The sophomore guard added six rebounds and two assists.
 
Marquealis Edwards led the Marauders with eight rebounds and nine assists.
 
Numi Omot headlined the Golden Bears with 16 points and seven rebounds. He was 10-of-11 at the free throw line. Olstad generated 14 points with three blocks, two assists and two steals. Josh Monroy added 10 points and three blocks.
 
The Marauders had an 11-8 in three-pointers but U-Mary shot just 38.7 percent from the floor to 44.6 percent for the Golden Bears. Concordia went 17-of-20 at the free throw and snared 39 rebounds. U-Mary was 5-of-8 at the line and had 31 rebounds.
 
U-Mary returns home for its final home games of the season, hosting Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston on Feb. 13-14.
