Last Week: The Marauders tipped off their Senior Weekend with a game against Bemidji State and the first half started out slow as niether team shot well from floor (U-Mary - 26.9%, BSU - 21.4%) but the Beavers scored the first eight points of the game to go up 8-0 by the first media break. The Marauders responded and ended up with 19 of the next 25 points to jump ahead of Bemidji State 19-14 with 3:15 remaining in the half and eventually forced a tie going into half. Dietz failed to make a basket in the first half but she made up for it in the second after she scored the first 15 points for U-Mary to give them a permanent lead at 34-28 starting at the second media break. Dietz totaled 22 in the game, all in the second half and the Marauders held on for the 55-45 win.
Sloan Turner earned her third double double in the last six games with 11 points and 16 rebounds while
Hannah Larson earned her sixth double double of the year with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Unfortunately the momentum couldn't be carried into the next night as the Marauders took on the Golden Eagles in a game that started out close but eventually got away from U-Mary as Minnesota Crookston pulled away in the second half. The Marauders kept the score close at half but were still down 29-25 at the intermission and were still in the game down 51-44 at the second media break, but the Golden Eagles fired off a 15-4 run which put U-Mary into an unrecoverable tailspin and eventually fell 72-54. Dietz maintained her pace with 21 points and Larson provided the interior presence with 10 rebounds and six points.
History: The Marauders moved to 5-7 all-time against the Huskies after defeated U-Mary earlier in the year at the McDowell Activity Center, 75-66. The Marauders improved to 6-5 all-time against the Bulldogs after securing a 83-72 victory over Minnesota Duluth in Bismarck a few weeks ago.
Next week: U-Mary will most likely be traveling next week for the start of the Northern Sun Conference Tournament. Check out GoUMary.com for up-to-date information about your Marauders.
