ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The University of Mary Women's Tennis team took to the road this weekend as they took on St. Cloud State University in another conference matchup for the Marauders.

The final score may not show it, but three of the singles matches were decided by tiebreaker and one of the doubles matches was decided by one set as the Marauders (0-2, 0-2 NSIC) fell to the Huskies (1-1, 1-0 NSIC) in the conference match, 8-1.

Catherine Gibbens got the lone victory for the Marauders as she took on El O'Brien at the number one spot. Gibbens took the first set 6-2 but dropped the second set 6-1 before bouncing back with a decisive 10-5 victory in the final set.

Eileen Leong was in at the number four spot against Jamie Voelker and Leong claimed the first set with a 6-4 win. Unfortunately, she dropped the second set 7-5 and Voelker took the contested third set 10-8, giving Leong her second loss of the year.

Courtney Brackin was up against Alexie Portz in the fifth spot as Brackin was involved in the third singles matchup for U-Mary to go to tiebreaker after she took the first set 6-2 but fell in the second set 6-4. The third set became the decider and Brackin came away empty handed as she fell in the final set 10-6.

Meredith Holt was called upon at the number two spot and she gave Abby Kantor a run for her money, but the Husky ultimately came out on top 6-1 and 6-3.

Anastasia Bruss got the start at the number three spot and her opponent, Marilia Diversi, got the upper hand early as Bruss fell 6-3 and 6-0.

Kate O'Connell rounded out the Marauders' singles matchup and Jordei Matson ousted her in consecutive sets, 6-3 and 6-3.

Bruss and Brackin offered the best duo for U-Mary in the doubles matches, but they ended on the negative end of a 9-8 decision as the Husky pair of Matson and Miranda Wynkoop got the win.

Holt and Leong were in the number one spot for the Marauders in the doubles matches and they had their hands full with Kantor and Portz as the St. Cloud pair took the match 8-4.

Finally, O'Connell and Gibbens were paired at the number two doubles spot and they took on O'Brien and Diversi, but ended up falling to the Huskies, 8-3.

The Marauders finished out their weekend with a match against the University of Minnesota Duluth, tomorrow starting at 1:30 p.m.
