MSUB: The Yellowjackets (8-6-3, 6-5-2 GNAC) took the first leg of the home-and-home series between the teams as they scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute with Ricardo Palomino took a through pass from David Loeung and snuck the shot past the keeper. MSU-Billings put the heat on late in the second half as Julian Toenges registered a goal in the 68th minute, followed by another goal from Palomino in the 72nd minute with Loeung adding one of his one less than a minute late in the 73rd minute of the match. Since then the Yellowjackets have taken on tough competition, including back-to-back losses to #19 Northwest Nazarene University and #18 Seattle Pacific, but won the rematch with the Crusaders. MSU-Billings in 1-3 in the last week with losses to Simon Fraser University, Saint Martin's University and #9 Seattle Pacific with their only win coming against Western Washington University. Ricardo Palomino leads the team, and the conference, with 16 goals in 17 matches to go with two assists and a blistering 34 points total, while Julian Toenges has made the key passes for three goals and eight assists. David Loeung rounds out the trio with three goals and two assists. Tom Lohmann has gotten the start in goal in every match and he was responded well with only 20 goals given up with 48 saves made for a 1.17 goals allowed average and a .706 save percentage. As a team, the Yellowjackets have taken a relatively even amount of shots with a 211-191 advantage but have faced 82 corner kick attempts while only taking 60 of their own. They are notorious for committing fouls, however, as they have 264 total on the year while opponents have only committed 172.
Next Week: The Marauders are finished with the regulars season with the only the postseason remaining. The top teams from each region will be selected to compete in the NCAA Regional Tournament before the start of the NCAA National Championships.
Last Week: U-Mary made their last long road trip to the Pacific Northwest as they took on #8 Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin's University. The Marauders found themselves down early to the Falcons as Bryson Pavel scored a header goal of a corner kick in the 20th minute of the match to put U-Mary in a 1-0 hole that lasted until halftime. The Falcons wasted little time building on their lead in the second half as Kennan dePinna added the second goal, unassisted, from about 25 yards out in the 56th minute. The Marauders got a late from
Alex Boyes in the 78th minute off a corner kick from
Christoffer Nogueira but couldn't find the magic touch to tie the match as they fell 2-1 to Seattle Pacific. Hoping to earn the season sweep the following day, the Marauders took on the Saints and found themselves in a tough situation after giving up an own goal in the 15th minute. Saint Martin's built their lead up to 3-0 in the 59th minute off goals from Derrick Gonzales and Kyle Witzel before André Almqvist broke through in the 69th minute with a goal and
James Liddiard followed up in the 79th minute, but U-Mary left town with a bitter taste and a 3-2 loss.
