Last Week: The Marauders faced the Ichabods from Washburn University to tip off the 2015-16 regular season and struggled to get the offense going as U-Mary fell behind early in the first quarter at 18-10. The Marauders fought back in the second as they narrowed the gap down to 25-21 but couldn't maintain the rhthym as Washburn pulled away and scored the final seven points of the half to lead U-Mary 32-21 at the break. The Ichabods wouldn't let go of their cushion at that point as they built up a 21-point lead midway through the third quarter and cruised to a 63-50 victory over the Marauders.
Brittney Dietz had 22 points in the game to go with six rebounds, while
Hannah Larson added 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and three steals. U-Mary then hosted Pittsburg State for the second game of the Crossover and appeared to have the offense figured out as they held a 22-18 lead at the end of the first thanks to a
Dani Clarke buzzer-beating three-pointer to hold the lead. The Gorillas came charging back in the second quarter, though, as they opened up the second quarter on a 16-2 run to swing the lead back into their favor at 34-23 midway through. The Marauders struggled to get the offense moving at that point as they found themselves down 37-28 at halftime. Pitt State recorded the first two points of the third quarter, but U-Mary put together an impressive 10-0 run to cut the lead down to 39-38. Unfortunately the wind came out of U-Mary's sails as the Gorillas built their lead back up to 49-40 through three quarters and took the game at 62-49. Dietz led all scorers once again with 28 in the game, putting her ninth on the all-time U-Mary scoring list.
Next week: U-Mary will take a long flight out to Honolulu, Hawaii, as they will take on Brigham Young University-Hawaii and Chaminade University at the Hawaii Thanksgiving Classic, starting on November 26, at 3:00 PM
History: U-Mary has not faced BYU-Hawaii or Chaminade while at the Division-II level.
