The University of Mary looks to play many tricks and and hand out few treats to the University of Minnesota Crookston when the Marauders host the Golden Eagles on Halloween in Northern Sun football. Game time is 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the MDU Recourse Community Bowl.

U-Mary finished 5-6 overall in the NSIC and 3-4 in the NSIC North… Minnesota Crookston was 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the NSIC North, placing last in both the overall and divisional standings.
MARAUDERS REWIND GAME 8: U-Mary 0 Northern State University 37
Turnovers tortured U-Mary in a 37-0 loss at Northern State. After finishing +5 over the past two weeks and turning the ball over once, the Marauders lost the ball five times (two fumbles) while the Wolves lost the ball twice on fumbles. Northern State fumbled away the opening kickoff but U-Mary couldn't convert the opportunity. The Wolves responded with a field goal and a touchdown on their next two possessions before adding two more field goals in the second quarter for a 16-0 lead. Marauders turnovers on their first two possessions of the second half led to a pair of Wolves touchdowns and a 30-0 NSU lead with over 9:00 left in the third quarter.
Caleb Buck was 30-of-50 for 203 yards with
Zach Graves catching 11 passes for 89 yards.
Adam Woroniecki ran for 57 yards.
Preston Tescher led UM with 13 tackles.
Seth Walton had two stops, both for loss. Nicholas Truen led NSU with 64 yards rushing and one TD. Kyle Lavand ran for 42 yards and threw for 233 yards and a TD. Zachary Barber caught five passes for 108 yards. Adrian Krupka was the NSIC special teams player of the week after making three field goals and four extra point kicks.
HEAD COACHES
Josh Kotelnicki is in his second season as the head coach of the University of Mary. He is just the fifth varsity head coach in school history as the team begins its 28th season. Kotelnicki directed the Marauders to a 5-6 record in his first season in 2014 and is 5-14 lifetime (2 years). Kotelnicki joined U-Mary after serving as the associate head coach at NCAA FCS University of North Dakota for two seasons (2012-13) and as UND's defensive coordinator in 2013. A native of Litchfield, Minn., Kotelnicki won an NCAA Division II title as a player at North Dakota and has been on winning teams as a coach at the NCAA FBS, FCS, and Division II levels. After starting his coaching career at UND, he has also worked at Murray State, Truman State, and NCAA FBS Kansas State before returning to UND... Originally hired as the University of Minnesota Crookston defensive coordinator, Mike Fritze was named interim head coach in the summer of 2013 before ever coaching a game for the Golden Eagles. After leading UMC to a 2-9 record and wins over Bemidji State and MSU Moorhead in trophy games, Fritze was elevated to head coach at the conclusion of the 2013 season. A long-time Minnesota high school head coach, joined the UMC staff to coach under long-time friend Paul Miller after retiring from teaching and high school coaching after the conclusion of the 2012 season. Fritze had coached for a combined 103 consecutive seasons in three sports (football, boys basketball and track and field) prior to his arrival at UMC, including the last 18 years at Apple Valley. UMC finished 0-11 last season and Fritze is currently 2-28 with the Golden Eagles.
THE MARAUDERS-GOLDEN EAGLES SERIES HISTORY: In a series that started in 1995 when both schools were members of the North Dakota College Athletic Conference, the University of Mary holds an 11-2 advantage over the University of Minnesota Crookston. The Marauders took the first match-up 49-23 and the second 20-13 before the Golden Eagles claimed their first win of the series, 24-14 at home in 1997. UMC snapped U-Mary's seven game series winning streak in 2012... 2006: Blair Sandy threw for two touchdowns and ran for one in a 24-0 Marauders road win. Sandy ran for 111 yards and passed for 128. Defensively U-Mary gave up just 159 yards and intercepted four passes... 2007: Shawn Melland returned an interception for a touchdown and James Patterson scooped and scored on a UMC fumble in a Marauders 38-0 win at home. UMC gained just 146 yards. Bayland Rippenkroeger ran for 104 yards and Sandy threw for 200 yards and two scores. Jesse Laber had 2.5 sacks... 2008: Jamal Lomax scored twice and ran for 129 yards, Mike Williams caught two of Henry Lau's three touchdown passes and Melland returned a fumble for a score in the Marauders 52-9 home win. UMC managed only 146 yards of offense... 2009: Terry Newsome opened the game with a 98 yard kickoff return for a touchdown and later caught one of Lau's four touchdown passes. Lomax ran for 158 yards and Lau completed 21-of-29 passes for 203 yards. The Marauders limited UMC to 200 yards... 2010: The Marauders returned three interceptions and a blocked punt for touchdowns in a 48-0 homecoming win. Lomax led the UM offense with 48 yards rushing and ran for a score. U-Mary limited UMC to 149 total yards and nine first downs while forcing four turnovers... 2011: On an incredibly windy day, Josh Edwards threw two touchdown passes in his first career start as U-Mary earned a 31-0 road win.
Dariouse Gravely ran for 108 yards and Josh Murray added 87 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Richard Haley ran for 179 yards for UMC... 2012: Played in the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, ND, UMC won 37-36 on the final play of the game. After a pass interference penalty on U-Mary on what would have been the final play of the game, Talo Pascal scored on a 1 yard TD on an un-timed play to pull UMC within 36-35. Going for two, UMC's pass failed but U-Mary was again called for pass interference. Making use of another second chance, Richard Haley scored the 2-point conversion to give UMC the win. Grant Singer had 3.0 TFL and 16 tackles. Craig Bagnell was 24-of-38 for 328 yards, five TDs and two interceptions.
Elby Pope caught 5-143-1 and Tyler Steffan caught two TDs. Haley ran for 87 yards, AJ Barge was 26-of-36 for 318 and 2 TD, Keith McBride was 9-130-0 and Josh Ross was 9-109-0... 2013:
Nick Jolliffe caught three touchdown passes from Craig Bagnell and the Marauders gave Myron Schulz a 31-15 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston in his final game as U-Mary head coach. In 15 years as head coach the Marauders were 103-66 under his direction. Bagnell finished 29-of-43 for 262 yards and three scores to end his career with a school-record 75 TD passes. QUICK LOOK AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON GOLDEN EAGLES
Currently in the midst of a 23-game losing streak, the University of Minnesota Crookston's last victory was a 20-14 home win over MSU Moorhead on Oct. 19, 2013. During that run the Golden Eagles have allowed at least 50 points ten times. UMC's closest contest this season is a 45-21 loss against then #15 Sioux Falls. The average loss is by 41.6 points. The fewest points allowed in a single game is 41. The Golden Eagles have shown some positive signs offensively, including a 517 yard outburst in a 55-21 loss at Northern State. The running attack has gained traction the past two weeks with 239 yards against the Wolves and 142 yards against Minnesota Duluth. Dre Pearson leads the ground game, carrying for 490 yards and three TDs while averaging 4.6 yards/carry. QB Nathan Cole has thrown for 963 yards, three TDs and 11 interceptions while completing 54.6% of his attempts. Tra Hearns also could see time under center. Adam Connette is the primary target, hauling down 36 passes for 451 yards and two TDs. Just the third UMC player with more than 1,000 career receiving yards, Connette also has run for 116 yards and a score. C. Jackson has 26 catches for 269 yards and two scores. Defensively Leth. Calderon leads UMD with 52 tackles, 31 solo stops and seven pass breakups. Jake Newman has 46 tackles and has recovered two fumbles. Austin Howard leads the defense with 2.5 sacks.
ON THE LINE
Both the Marauders and Golden Eagles are looking for their first win of the season on Saturday. While the Golden Eagles have had winless seasons previously, the Marauders had previously not lost more than four games to open the season, the last time in 2010.
TESCHER THIRD IN ALL-TIME MARAUDERS TACKLE CHART

Preston Tescher now stands alone as the third leading tackler in U-Mary football history. With 267 tackles, the two-time All-Northern Sun safety trails a pair of All-American linebackers on the chart, Toby Schweitzer (410 tackles) and
Grant Singer (351). A three-year starter who saw significant action as a freshman, Tescher has 163 solo stops and 104 assisted tackles. He is one away from tying Singer's mark for most solo tackles in the school's NCAA era (2006-current). After posting 31 tackles as a freshman, he increased to 74 in 2013 and 89 last season. He is currently at 73 this year. Additionally Tescher is tied for the NCAA-era team high in passes defensed (24).

TURNOVER TURNAROUND
After turning the ball over just once the previous two weeks against Minot State and Minnesota Duluth while forcing the Beavers and Bulldogs to commit a combined six turnovers, the tables turned on U-Mary at Northern State. While the Marauders forced and recovered two Wolves fumbles, U-Mary lost the ball a season-high five times (three interceptions, two fumbles). For the year U-Mary is +1 in the turnover battle. For the year the Marauders are now -3.
VERSATILITY
After leading the Marauders in rushing consecutive weeks against Minot State and Minnesota Duluth,
Zach Graves posted game-high receiving numbers in the Northern State game. The junior RB ran for 67 yards against the Beavers and 43 against the Bulldogs. Last Saturday he caught 11 passes for 89 yards. The 11 catches was just the 11th time a U-Mary player has hit that figure since beginning NCAA play in 2006.
WALTON'S MOUNTAIN
Senior LB
Seth Walton posted two tackles last week, and both were big plays. The native of Helena, Mont., was credited with a season-high 2.0 tackles/loss. For the season Walton has 44 tackles (24 solo) and a career-high 6.5 tackles for loss, plus a fumble recovery and an interception.

Landon Smith (Stanley, N.D.) has posted a tackle for loss in seven straight games. For the season he has 10 tackles behind the line, including 4.0 sacks. Smith is eighth in the NSIC in both tackles for loss and sacks.

Senior two-time all-conference safety
Preston Tescher led the Marauders in solo tackles last year and is off and running again this season. After eight games the Bismarck, N.D., native leads U-Mary in total tackles (73) and in solo stops (47). He is 4th in the Northern Sun in tackles and second in solo tackles. Tescher also has an interception and two pass breakups.

Jacob Parker are dangerous playmakers for the Marauders defense. Parker ranks 15th in passes defended in NCAA Division II with 1.6/game. The sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., has two interceptions, 11 pass breakups and 30 tackles, including 3.0 for loss. Whitaker is 52nd nationally in passes defended at 1.3/game. The junior from Houston, Texas, is also 12th in the country in blocked kicks (2) and 60th in interceptions (3). Whitaker is third on the team with 50 tackles and second with seven pass breakups.
