LAST YEAR
U-Mary finished 5-6 overall in the NSIC and 3-4 in the NSIC North… Minnesota Duluth was 13-1 overall, 11-0 in the NSIC and 7-0 in the NSIC North. UMD won in the first round of the NCAA playoffs before being eliminated the next week by Minnesota State.

MARAUDERS REWIND GAME 6: U-Mary 9 Minot State 15
The University of Mary forced overtime with an epic last-second scoring drive but Minot State recorded the only points in the extra stanza for a 15-9 Beavers victory. It was the first time Minot State has won the Big Lake Trophy after U-Mary won the first two. The series is now knotted at 12-12. The Marauders opened the scoring on a 36 yard Zach Graves run with 3:06 left in the 3rd quarter. Unable to convert on the point after run attempt, the Marauders led 6-0, their first lead of the season. Minot State scored early to take a 7-6 lead and a planned punt snap through the end zone increased the Beavers advantage to 9-6. After the U-Mary defense forced a punt, the Marauders drove 76 yards in 17 plays and just 89 seconds. Caleb Buck set up the tying points by connecting with Adam Woroniecki for 14 yards and Sam Mackedanz for 22 to the MSU 5. Facing a stiff wind, Cody Goetz knocked home a 27 yard field goal with four seconds left on the clock to knot the contest 9-9. After U-Mary failed to score on its first possession, Minot State walked off with the win on a 2 yard run by Jarvis Mustipher. Graves ran for 67 yards and a score to lead the Marauders. Buck was 27-of-50 for 214 yards and no interceptions. Brennan Doan caught seven passes for 54 yards. Austin Bolton lead all players with 16 tackles. Jacob Parker had an interception and ten tackles. Danielle Whitaker and Daniel Hunter also had interceptions. Mustipher had 154 yards rushing and Larry Overstreet added 87 yards as MSU gained 254 yards on the ground to go with 73 passing yards.

HEAD COACHES
Josh Kotelnicki is in his second season as the head coach of the University of Mary. He is just the fifth varsity head coach in school history as the team begins its 28th season. Kotelnicki directed the Marauders to a 5-6 record in his first season in 2014 and is 5-12 lifetime (2 years). Kotelnicki joined U-Mary after serving as the associate head coach at NCAA FCS University of North Dakota for two seasons (2012-13) and as UND's defensive coordinator in 2013. A native of Litchfield, Minn., Kotelnicki won an NCAA Division II title as a player at North Dakota and has been on winning teams as a coach at the NCAA FBS, FCS, and Division II levels. After starting his coaching career at UND, he has also worked at Murray State, Truman State, and NCAA FBS Kansas State before returning to UND... University of Minnesota Duluth head coach Curt Wiese is in his third season guiding the Bulldogs and has produced a 28-5 overall record, two consecutive NCAA II playoff appearances, one overall NSIC title (with Minnesota State in 2014) and two straight NSIC North Division crowns. UMD was 13-1 last year and ranked 3rd in the final AFCA poll. In 2013 UMD was 11-2 and ranked #8 at the end of the year. Weise joined UMD after two years as the head coach at Marietta College (2006-07) and was then the Bulldogs offensive coordinator for five years (2008-12).

Edwards was 28-of-40 passes for 318 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions... 2012: #9 UMD ran for 270 yards and passed for 294 in a 53-14 home win over U-Mary. Grant Singer had a game-high 14 tackles, Chase Vogler was 19-of-24 for 260 yards and 3 TDs for UMD... 2013: A dominant 3rd quarter by #5 Minnesota Duluth lifted the Bulldogs to a 32-14 win over the Marauders. U-Mary used a 37 yard Elby Pope touchdown catch from Zach Roberson and and a Roberson 4 yard run to trail 17-14 at intermission. Aaron Sikorski and Logan Lauters both ran for UMD scores in the 3rd quarter  to take command of the game as the Bulldogs outgained the Marauders 160 yards to -6 in the stanza. QUICK LOOK AT UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH BULLDOGS
Like real estate, a big part of the University of Minnesota Duluth's season probably has come down to location. One of the favorites to win the Northern Sun, UMD has lost twice this year, both to nationally ranked teams on the road in tight contests (20-17 at #1 Minnesota State, 35-31 at now #4 Sioux Falls). Those losses to the two top teams in the NSIC may cost UMD - the 2008 and 2010 NCAA D2 national champions - an 8th consecutive trip to the NCAA playoffs. 7-time defending NSIC North Division champion UMD has a 22-game win streak against North Division foes and has won 10 straight NSIC North road games. JR QB Drew Bauer leads a powerful Bulldogs offense, rushing for a team-high 486 yards and five touchdowns while also passing for 1,192 yards and 11 TDs. Sixth in the NSIC in total offense, Bauer has completed 79-of-139 passes with five interceptions. SR RB Logan Lauters has missed the past two games with an injury but still has accumulated 321 yards on the ground with one TD. Lauters is second all-time on the UMD career rushing list with over 3,200 yards and trails just Isaac Odim. Beau Bofferding has 18 cartes for 368 yards and 5 TDs. Defensively Karl Finkel has 8.5 tackles for loss while Zach Bassuener led the team with 3.0 sacks. Darion Fletcher has two interceptions and his 12 pass breakups leads the NSIC.

ROBERSON, JOLLIFFE OUT FOR SEASON
Senior quarterback Zach Roberson and sophomore WR Ben Jolliffe will not play again in the 2015 season. Roberson suffered a concussion in the first half of the season opener at Sioux Falls and the Sonora, Calif., native has not played since. Jolliffe (Bismarck, N.D.) was injured in week five at Bemidji State University.

SMILE FOR THE CAMERAS
Midco Sports Net is taping Saturday's game between the Marauders and Bulldogs for its NCAA Division II Game of the Week, to be aired at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Midco Sports Net will also be back for the Marauders game with Minnesota Crookston.

RARE OCCURRENCE
The overtime game with Minot State was the first for the Marauders since winning back-to-back overtime games in 2008, beating MSU Moorhead 24-17 and Northern State 34-31. The winning points in both games were scored by Jamal Lomax.

76 IN 17 IN 89
Needing three points to force overtime with 1:33 remaining on their own 19 yard line in the Big Lake Trophy game, the Marauders executed 17 plays to march 76 yards in a scant 89 seconds to kick the tying field goal. U-Mary ran the ball three times and threw 13 times during the drive, converting on fourth down three times. The big plays came at the end on consecutive plays. Caleb Buck first connected with Adam Woroniecki for 14 yards to the Minot State 27 before Buck hit Sam Mackedanz for 22 yards to the Minot State 5. Cody Goetz then drove home a 27-yard field goal into a strong wind with four seconds left in regulation to forge a 9-9 tie and force overtime.

GRAVE(S) MATTERS
Junior RB Zach Graves had his best game at U-Mary against Minot State. The Sierra College transfer in his first season with the Marauders ran for 67 yards on 14 carries, including a 36 yard scoring run in the third quarter. His TD gave the Marauders a 6-0 lead, the team's first lead of the season.

HANDYMAN
Jacob Parker did a little of everything for the Marauders against the Beavers. The sophomore cornerback intercepted a pass and returned it 37 yards in the first half, ran 15 yards for a first down out of punt formation and had ten tackles, including one for a loss.

TESCHER PRESSURE
Senior two-time all-conference safety Preston Tescher led the Marauders in solo tackles last year and is off and running again this season. After six games the Bismarck, N.D., native leads U-Mary in total tackles (50) and in solo stops (33). He is 8th in the Northern Sun in tackles and second in solo tackles.

DYNAMIC DUO
Cornerbacks Danielle Whitaker and Jacob Parker are becoming dangerous playmakers for the Marauders defense. Parker is ranked 20th in passes defended in NCAA Division II with 1.7/game. The sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., has one interception, nine pass breakups and 27 tackles. Whitaker is 34th nationally in passes defended at 1.5/game. The junior from Houston, Texas, is also 8th in the country in blocked kicks (2) and 26th in interceptions (3). Whitaker is second on the team with 43 tackles and six breakups.

DOAN DOES IT
After catching seven passes for 54 yards against Minot State, sophomore WR Brennan Doan is 19th in the nation and second in the NSIC in receptions/game (6.7). Through six games the Bismarck N.D., native has 40 catches for 341 yards and a score. He has caught at least five passes in every game this season after no receptions last year.

BOLTON TOPS TEN
Sophomore LB Austin Bolton led the Marauders with a career-high 16 tackles against Minot State. He had 1.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup. It was the second time this season Bolton has hit double digit tackles and the fifth time in his career. The Joliett, Ill., native is now fourth on the team in tackles with 37.

BROTHERS
Newcomers Zach and Connor Graves are the lone pair of brothers on the current Marauders squad. Natives of Rocklin, Calif., both are juniors and transferred to U-Mary this season. Older brother Zach transferred from Sierra College and Connor joins the Marauders from Hawaii Hilo, where he competed on the golf team. Preston Tescher (Adam), Ben Jolliffe (Nick) and Paul Guptill (Troy) have brothers who previously played for U-Mary.

LOCAL TIES
Seven of the Marauders projected starters have ties to Bismarck high schools. Ben Jolliffe, Nick Kottre, Nick Nelson and Deon Paulson all graduated from Bismarck High School. Preston Tescher and Peter Bopp represent St. Mary's. Brennan Doan is from Century.
