Last Week: The Marauders scored fast and early on the Huskies last week for Alumni Weekend, jumping out to an early 18-12 lead in the first half.
Brittney Dietz needed only 13 points to reach 1000 on her career and she broke that mark in the first 10 minutes of the game. A three-pointer at the 10:12 mark of the half put Dietz over the hump and made her the 15th women's player in Marauder history to accomplish the feat. From there, U-Mary maintained their momentum and held on to a 32-22 lead by the third media break, but St. Cloud came roaring back and narrowed the Marauder's lead to 38-34 by halftime. Both teams traded baskets at the start of the second half and the Marauders found themselves down 58-57 by the third media break of the second half. The Huskies started to pull away after that as they scored nine unanswered points to pull away 67-57 with less than three minutes remaining. The Marauders couldn't kick the offense into high gear and ultimately fell 75-66. The next night was a different story, however, as four Marauders reached double digit points against Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs held an early 16-13 lead over U-Mary, but the Marauders struck back fast as they fired off a 12-2 run to surge ahead 25-18 by the second media break. Minnesota Duluth responded in kind with a 13-5 run of their own and climbed back on top 31-30 by the third break and both teams exchanged baskets from that point with U-Mary down 41-39 at half. The Marauders came out firing in the second half and retook the lead from the Bulldogs 51-49 by the first media break and the Bulldogs never recovered. U-Mary utilized strong interior play from
Hannah Larson and
Sloan Turner and cruised to an 83-72 victory over Minnesota Duluth.
History: The Marauders are 3-9 all-time against Augustana, with the Vikings currently owning a six-game winning streak over U-Mary. The Marauders are also 4-11 all-time against Wayne State and the last four games have been split between the teams.
Next week: U-Mary will head back out on the road next week when they travel to Minnesota State University on Friday, February 6, before heading out to Concordia University-St. Paul on Saturday, February 7.
