South Dakota School of Mines: The Hardrockers hosted the GNAC/MIAA Challenge in the previous week and so far on the season they are 1-3-0. They have defeated Southwest Baptist but have lost games to Illinois-Springfield, Upper Iowa, and #23 Fort Hays State. The Hardrockers are struggling on the offensive front as they have only registered three goals in four games. Their leading scorer is Sean Tabbert with two goals on seven shots. As a team they have attempted 31 shots, received four yellow cards, and have committed 29 fouls. Braden Federie will likely get the start in the net. On the season he has given up five goals while making eight saves for a 1.86 goals allowed average. With the Marauders should have the advantage as they recorded a draw against #23 Fort Hays State, look for Aaron Brennan and Jordan Pearce to carry the momentum from last week into the Great Northern opener.
Next Week: The Marauders return home to host Seattle Pacific University on Thursday, Sept. 25, and Saint Martin's University on Saturday, Sept. 27.
GNAC: Seattle Pacific holds the top spot for now after kicking off the season 3-0-1 with victories against Humboldt State, Notre Dame de Namur, and Cal State East Bay. U-Mary is currently second at 1-0-1 followed closely by Northwest Nazarene at 3-1-0. Northwest Nazarene has recorded victories against Cal State Stanislaus, Dominican, and Dixie State. Simon Fraser currently is sitting fourth with a 2-1 record, the wins came against Sonoma State and Hawaii Hilo. Western Washington, with a record of 2-2-0, sits fifth with victories against UC San Diego and Notre Dame de Namur. South Dakota School of Mines is sixth at 1-3-0, with Montana State University-Billings sitting seventh at 0-2-2, and Saint Martin's in the last spot at 0-4-0.
Last Week: The Marauders recorded a 1-1 draw against #23 Fort Hays State after battling back from a 1-0 deficit in the first half. Aaron Mc Elwee netted the game-tying goal at 57:29 stemming from a rebound off a penalty kick. Jack West earned GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after he kept U-Mary in the game with 11 saves, including two in overtime and two in one-on-one situations. The Marauders then played Southwest Baptist in a game which ended with dual goals from Jordan Pearce and Aaron Brennan. Brennan also added one assist to his day and Christoffer Nogueira also earned one goal and one assist. Jack West started in the net for U-Mary and finished the game with three saves.
