Tennis defeated 5-4 for second straight day in loss to Eckerd

Tampa, Fla.—Playing their third match in as many days, the University of Mary tennis team fell to Eckerd College Wednesday afternoon. U-Mary (5-3, 4-1 NSIC) won three of six singles matches, but lost two of three doubles matches as it fell 5-4 to Eckerd (3-5, 0-4 SSC) on day three of its Spring Break trip.
 
The combination of Hallie Welk and Kate O'Connell won yet again today at second doubles as they improved to 8-0 on the season.

In singles action the Marauders won their top three matches. Welk won 6-4, 6-3 and has now won three of her last four matches at first singles. At second singles Sarah Janes won 6-2, 6-3 and has now also won three of her last four matches. Catherine Gibbens rounded out the scoring for the Marauders in singles action winning 6-2, 6-4 and has won four of her last five matches at third singles.
 
After winning her first set 6-4 at fourth singles, Meredith Holt fell 3-6 in the second and 0-6 in the third. Anastasia Bruss lost 3-6, 4-6 and Kate O'Connell lost 1-6, 2-6 at fifth and sixth singles respectively.
 
Welk and O'Connell came away with an 8-2 win to extend their winning streak to eight at second doubles. Janes and Gibbens fell 5-8 at first doubles and Bruss and Holt lost 3-8 at third doubles.
 
After playing three consecutive days, the Marauders will be off the next two days. U-Mary will wrap-up its Spring Break trip on March 8 against Wayne State University.
