U-Mary softball opens Dot Richardson Spring Games with split

U-Mary started with a 4-0 loss to Quincy, but rebounded with a 4-1 win over Notre Dame (Ohio)

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla.—The University of Mary softball team stumbled in their first game of the day to open the Dot Richardson Spring games with a 4-1 loss to Quincy University, but rebounded to finish the day with a 4-0 win over Notre Dame College (Ohio).
 
Julissa Perales highlighted the Marauders offensive efforts going 4-of-5 on the day with a walk and an RBI.

A first inning error by the Marauders led to an early 1-0 deficit that U-Mary was unable to overcome as it fell 4-1 to the Quincy.
 
Alana Norman scored U-Mary's only run of the game on a wild pitch after tripling over the centerfielders head. Perales finished the game 2-of-3 for the Marauders.
 
Kelsey Lay led Quincy going 1-of-3 with a two-run home run to left field.
 
The Hawks opened the game with a triple to right center. With one out Quincy hit a fly ball to right field for the second out of the inning, but a U-Mary error on the throw home allowed the Hawks to score.
 
Quincy added two runs in the in the fifth on a two-run home run to extended its lead to 3-0. U-Mary got on the board in the sixth after Norman scored on a wild pitch.
 
Down 4-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Marauders went down in order to end the game.
 
Cherlyn Trujillo was the Marauders starting pitcher in the game one going 4.2 innings and allowing three earned runs, while striking out three. Keen pitched 2.1 innings and did not allow a hit, while striking out one.
 
U-Mary finished the game with five hits to Quincy's four. The Marauders committed two errors to the Hawks zero.

U-Mary got on the board early against Notre Dame and a strong pitching performance led the Marauders in a 4-0 win.
 
Keen got the start on the mound for the Marauders and pitched 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Keen was relieved by MeLanie Rodriguez who finished the shutout for the Marauders pitching 3.1 innings and scattering three hits.
 
In the first inning Kristin Ormsby singled, Taylor Mendez reached on an error and Perales singled to left, but U-Mary stranded three.
 
Amber Gamboa reached in the second inning on an infield single. With two outs Allison Brown doubled to left center to give U-Mary a 1-0 lead.
 
In the sixth inning the Marauders rallied to score three more runs. After Ormsby was hit by a pitch and Mendez singled, Perales singled to left to score Ormsby. U-Mary added two more runs as a Demaree Rodriguez sacrifice bunt was mishandled by Notre Dame to extend its lead to 4-0.
 
Perales was 2-of-3 for the Marauders with a run batted in. Maria Vanadia was 2-of-3 for the Falcons.
 
Both teams finished with seven hits. The Marauders were errorless and the Falcons finished with three.
 
Tomorrow
 
U-Mary will be back in action tomorrow as it takes on Chestnut Hill College at 8 a.m. and University of the Sciences at 10 a.m.
