Bismarck, N.D.--The University of U-MARY tennis team improved to 2-0, 2-0 NSIC with a 5-4 win over Minnesota State University Friday night in its home debut.
 
Senior Hallie Welk and freshman Anastasia Bruss headlined U-Mary's efforts winning each winning at both singles and doubles.
 
Welk and Bruss each moved to 2-0 on the season in singles play. At first singles Welk won 6-0, 6-3 and Bruss won 6-4, 6-2 at fourth singles. At second singles Sarah Janes battled back from an opening set 6-3 loss to win the second 6-4, but fell in the tiebreaker 10-4.
 
The Marauders made a clean sweep of doubles play. Janes/Catherine Gibbens and Welk/Kate O'Connel both won 9-7 at first and second singles respectively, with both pairs moving to 2-0 on the season. Bruss and Hannah Smith rounded out the effort with an 8-3 win at third singles.
 
U-Mary will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as it hosts defending NSIC Tournament Champions Augustana College at 1 p.m.
