Box Score Bismarck, N.D.—A first half lull by the University of Mary (14-8, 12-7 NSIC) allowed Southwest Minnesota State University (4-19, 2-17 NSIC) to stay in the game, but a balanced attack by Marauders enabled them to hold on for the win. With five different players in double figures, U-Mary won 73-65 Friday night in Northern Sun women's basketball action.

Behind 4-of-4 shooting from deep in the first half, McKenzie Foster led the Marauders with 17 points.

Allison Nagel came off the bench for the Mustangs and scored a game-high 22 points.

SMSU actually outshot U-Mary 52 percent to 41, but the Marauders held a commanding 44-29 edge on the glass. U-Mary's 17 offensive rebounds led to 21 second-chance points. The Marauders also held a 40-24 advantage scoring in the paint.

Foster got the Marauders off to a fast start knocking down four 3-pointers in the first seven minutes to give U-Mary an 18-10 lead. The Mustangs countered the Marauders hot start with a run of their own. After a lay-up by Dietz with 11:04 left in the first half, SMSU went on an 18-0 run. During the run the Marauders shot 0-of-6 from the field and 0-of-2 from the free throw line.

With U-Mary down 10, Ashlee Harper entered to the game and provided an offensive spark scoring three quick baskets and grabbing an offensive rebound to cut the deficit to three. The Marauders briefly took a one-point lead, but entered the half trailing 40-37.

With several players picking up early fouls, the Mustangs bench was instrumental in the first half scoring 28 points.

After SMSU built its lead to four in the early minutes of the second half, U-Mary went on a 7-0 run behind four points from Linda Murray to take a four-point lead. A three by the Mustangs with 15:12 left to play brought them within one, but that was as close as they would come as the Marauders quickly built their lead up to seven. SMSU came within a basket at 56-53, but U-Mary scored six straight points and cruised to a 73-65 win.

In the second half the Marauders held a commanding 25-10 edge on the glass, including eight offensive rebounds that led to 12 second-chance points.

Scoreless in the first half, Hannah Larson came alive with 10 points and seven rebounds in the second half alone.

Murray and Dietz each scored 13 points for U-Mary and Sloan Turner added 11 points off of the bench on 5-of-6 shooting. Murray added 14 rebounds and Larson finished with eight. Lindsey Sand attempted just three shots, but made an impact delivering 10 assists.

U-Mary will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts University of Sioux Falls at 4 p.m. The game will be the final regular season home game for four Marauders seniors.
