Box Score St. Paul, Minn.—Looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance on Friday, the University of Mary women's basketball team (11-8, 9-7 NSIC) failed to do so as they had their worst shooting performance of the season in a loss to Concordia University, St. Paul (17-6, 12-4). Shooting just 25 percent from the field, U-Mary fell to Concordia-St. Paul 74-55 in Northern Sun action Saturday evening.
Brittney Dietz led U-Mary with 12 points, all of which she scored in the first half.
Defending NSIC Player of the Year Anika Whiting led all scorers with 21 points for CU.
The Marauders shot just 19-of-75 on the night to the Golden Bears 29-of-69 (.420) from the field. U-Mary was 5-of-27 from deep to CU's 3-of-11.
The Golden Bears scored the opening points of the game and never trailed. The Marauders tied the game at 9-9 with 14:30 left until half as
McKenzie Foster hit a jump shot, but that was the closest they would be the remainder of the night. CU built its lead to as many as 12 before entering the half with a 38-27 lead.
The two keys to the first half were U-Mary's 10 turnovers that led to 11 CU points and the Golden Bears 20-6 advantage in scoring inside.
The closest The Marauders came in the second half was when
Dani Clarke connected on a three-point play with 17:10 remaining to bring them within nine. From there CU went on a 17-6 run to open its lead to 20. After a Marauders basket the Golden Bears went on an 11-2 run to take its largest lead of the night at 27.
U-Mary bench was able to outscore CU 15-7 in the closing minutes, but it was too late as the Marauders went on to lose 74-55.
U-Mary shot just 10-of-42 in the second half to CU's 12-of-30. The Marauders had 11 offensive rebounds in the second half, but score just eight second chance points and were outrebounded 26-25.
U-Mary had nine different players score, but finished the game with a season-low nine assists.
Linda Murray was the only other Marauders player in double figures with 10 points. Murray tied
Hannah Larson for a team-high eight rebounds.
After losing both games this weekend, U-Mary will look to bounce back as it hosts Oglala Lakota College on Monday. The game that was recently added to the Marauders schedule will start at 6 p.m. at the McDowell Activity Center.
