SDSM: The Hardrockers are 1-16-0 overall, 0-13-0 in the GNAC and are coming off losses to Simon Fraser and Western Washington. The Hardrockers lost 4-0 against the Vikings and 3-0 against the Clan, and have only recorded two goals in the past five games. The Marauders won the first match between the teams in a 6-3 battle in Rapid City, S.D. Jordan Pearce led the way with three goals, Christoffer Nogueira added two of his own, and Aaron Brennan rounded out the trio of scorers with the last goal for U-Mary. South Dakota Mines fought hard, though, as they evened the score in the first half a few minutes after Nogueira notched his first goal of the game, but the Marauders exploded for three more goals before halftime. Michael McGraw was the leading scorer for the Hardrockers as he recorded all three goals in the loss. McGraw is second on the team for the year in goals scored with five, he is only one behind the leader, Sean Tabbert. South Dakota Mines has been outscored 54-13 on the year and opposing teams are averaging 3.12 goals per game. Braeden Federle has recorded the most time in the net for the Hardrockers but has struggled on the year with a 1-10-0 overall record. He is better than average, though, as his goals allowed average is 2.67 with 55 saves and a .655 save percentage. The Marauders will need to employ a steady offense with a stingy defense for their last home game of the season. Pearce and Nogueira will need to maintain their usual pace and Michael Frenzel will need to anchor the defense for the win.
Last Week: The Marauders faced their final tough road test of the season with visits to Burnaby, British Columbia, and Bellingham, Wash. U-Mary took on Simon Fraser University on Friday, Oct. 30, and the Marauders held an early lead thanks to a goal from Aaron Brennan in the 24th minute to give U-Mary a 1-0 advantage. The lead would stay with the Marauders going into the second half, but the Clan demonstrated why they are one of the best in the GNAC as they fired off three goals in the span of eight minutes to storm ahead 3-1. The Marauders struggled from there and eventually dropped the game 3-1. U-Mary then had another tough road test when they visited Western Washington University on Saturday, Nov. 1, and the Marauders came under fire early in the first half after the Vikings scored a goal in the fourth minute to go ahead 1-0. U-Mary gave up two more goals in the first half and went into halftime down 3-0. Unfortunately the Vikings wouldn't slow down and notched two more goals midway through the second half to put the Marauders down 5-0. Jonathan Sellars finally broke the dry spell for U-Mary as he recorded his first goal of the season off a corner kick from Christoffer Nogueira to get the Marauders on the board 5-1 in th 86th minute. It didn't matter as the Vikings added one more goal to put the game away 6-1.
