Spring Lake Park, MN – Hallie Welk and Sarah Janes continued to roll in singles play for the University of Mary but the Marauders were nipped 5-4 by Upper Iowa University in Northern Sun women's tennis.
 
The two squads split their six singles bouts but the Peacocks claimed two of the three in doubles play to win the match.
 
Janes and Kate O'Connell captured an 8-3 win over Karli Loewecke and Paige Olson in number one doubles for the Marauders before the Peacocks garnered wins in the other two pairs play matches. For the U-Mary duo of Welk and Rachael Scott, an 8-1 loss to Nicole Pothen and Rose Espinoza was their first of the season after winning their first nine matches.
 
In the number one singles match, Janes captured a 6-4, 6-1 win over Loewecke, improving the freshman's season record to 9-3. Welk bumped her season mark to 11-1 in individual play with a 7-5, 6-0 over Olson in number two singles.
 
Stephanie Gerriets claimed the other Marauders win of the day, defeating Laura Alvarez 6-2, 6-1 in number six singles.
 
The Marauders are 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the NSIC. The Peacocks improve to 4-10 and 4-4.
 
U-Mary closes out the regular season against the University of Minnesota Duluth in  a conference match scheduled for April 13 in Aberdeen, SD.
