Minnetonka, MN—The University of Mary's record-setting season came to a close Saturday morning as they fell 5-0 at the hands of Winona State in the opening round of the NSIC Tennis Tournament. With a 7-7 record, U- Mary finished with their most wins since joining the NCAA in 2007 and the programs first .500 season.
Playing in the final match of their careers,
Ashley Akers and
Ashley Tuschling fell at No. 3 doubles. Not long after, the team of
Kate O'Connell and
Stefanie Gerriets fell at No. 2 doubles. The Marauders opted to pair their top two singles players,
Sarah Janes and
Hallie Welk, in hopes of capturing a win against WSU's team of Erin Kappers and Hannah Potter, who are undefeated in conference play. Despite their incredible success this season, Janes and Welk fell 8-3 at first doubles and U-Mary found themselves in a 3-0 hole heading to singles play.
