This Week: With the release of the NSIC Women's Tennis Tournament bracket, the University of Mary received the seventh seed and has drawn a rematch with second seeded Winona State University. The match will be played at Lifetime Fitness Oakdale (Village Tennis) in Minnetonka, MN on April 20 at 9 a.m.
Playoffs?!: For the first time since 2008, U-Mary will be competing in postseason competition. In 2008 all eight teams qualified for postseason play and this is the first time the Marauders have earned their way into the tournament. With a 6-3 win over Minnesota Duluth on April 13, U-Mary clinched a spot in the NSIC tournament.
Luck of the Draw: With the regular season in the books Sioux Falls, Upper Iowa and U-Mary were stuck in a three way tie for sixth place. The three teams all split head-to-head, had identical records against the other teams in the league and identical scores in their matches against each other. Sioux Falls was awarded the eighth seed following a coin flip. Upper Iowa was the sixth seed via a head-to-head win versus U-Mary during the regular season.
7: With seven wins this season U-Mary has set a program record since joining the NCAA in 2007.
6: With six Northern Sun wins U-Mary has set a program record since joining the NSIC in 2007.
Player of the Week: Continuing her exceptional freshmen campaign with a pair of wins against Minnesota Duluth,
Sarah Janes was named this week's NSIC Player of the Week. Janes continued her dominance at the top of U-Mary's lineup winning 6-2, 6-0 and now has a 9-2 record at No. 1 singles. Playing No. 1 doubles for U-Mary, the freshman phenom and teammate
Kate O'Connell teamed up for an 8-2 win. The duo improved to 9-2 as the Marauders top doubles team.
Streaking: Twice named player of the week herself
, Hallie Welk has been dominant for the Marauders this year at No. 2 singles and has now won 12 straight matches overall. Welk has the longest active winning streak and has not lost since Feb. 9 against Augustana.
Rematch: The Marauders struggled against the Warriors when they met back on March 3. Losing 8-1,
Hallie Welk at No. 2 singles scored the lone point for U-Mary on the day.
Winona: The Warriors' (15-5, 10-1 NSIC) only conference loss this season came against top seeded Augustana. Winona is led by 2012 NSIC Player of the Year Erin Kappers. Playing No. 1 singles, Kappers has a 9-1 record in conference play. Kappers' success has carried over to doubles play where her and partner Hannah Potter have a perfect 10-0 record in NSIC play.
Up Next: If U-Mary is able to advance they will take on the winner of Minnesota State and Northern State the following day at 8 a.m. with the championship slated for noon.
