Softball's match-up with UMC changed to noon at the Community Bowl

This Week

After an up and down start to conference play, the University of Mary softball team (13-10, 2-4 NSIC) will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2. U-Mary will host Minnesota Crookston (2-15, 1-5) for a Northern Sun doubleheader.

Time Change

Due to unplayable field condition on campus, U-Mary's doubleheader against UMC has been changed to noon and will be played at the Bismarck Community Bowl.

Last Week
U-Mary started out slow being swept by Minot State. The Beavers launched eight home runs on their way to a pair of mercy rule victories over the Marauders. Against Southwest Minnesota State, U-Mary had a lead down the stretch in the first game, but a seven run sixth by Mustangs doomed the Marauders. U-Mary bounced back in the second game for a 5-3 win behind a four RBI performance from Allison Brown and a career-high 16 strikeouts from Cherlyn Trujillo. A one run ballgame against Sioux Falls in game one, the Cougars took advantage of several Marauders' miscues for a seven run fifth that was too much for U-Mary to overcome. Erin Keen was 3-for-4 with two home runs in the game. Finishing with no walks and just one error, the Marauders buckled down in game two for a 6-1 win behind a 14 strikeout performance from Trujillo.

Recent History

Due to weather issues the University of Mary and Minnesota Crookston have only played four times in the past three years, with U-Mary winning the past three meetings by a combined 16 runs. In last year's doubleheader Kristin Ormsby went 5-for-7 on the day with four runs batted in and three doubles. Keen pitched perhaps the best game of her career in a 10-0 victory in the second game. Keen pitched a complete game shutout, struck out six and allowed just two hits.

Scouting the Golden Eagles

Minnesota Crookston (2-15, 1-5 NSIC) has the lowest team batting average in the conference at .213 and are averaging just under two runs per game. The Golden Eagles are last in the conference in home runs and stolen bases with one each.  UMC's pitching staff has struggled as well with a league-worst 6.97 earned run average. Overall, Crookston has allowed 10.38 runs per game.

On Deck

U-Mary is scheduled to head to Winona State (16-6, 1-1 NSIC) on April 6 and Upper Iowa (14-8, 1-1) on April 7. Neither Winona State nor Upper Iowa were able to play on their home field last weekend. The travel partners split a doubleheader on March 28 at a neutral site.
