SIOUX FALLS, SD – The University of Mary softball team (13-35, 3-23 Northern Sun) dropped a road doubleheader to Augustana University (24-25, 16-10 NSIC) on a cold and rainy day. UMary lost game one 9-1 and game two 13-2.
The Marauders next doubleheader is at home against the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, May 2, at noon in the UMary Softball Field.
GAME 1 University of Mary 1 AU 9 F/5
The Vikings jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. AU added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.
UMary got on the board in the top of the fourth inning after Madison Schamanski lined a single to right field, scoring Daisy Sparrow.
The Vikings responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it an 8-1 ballgame. Norah Christiansen walked the game off for AU when she hit a solo home run to left field, securing a 9-1 win.
The Marauders finished the game with four hits and two walks, while the Vikings had seven hits and six walks.

Madison Schamanski went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Lalaina Baker went 1-for-1 with one walk.
Daisy Sparrow went 1-for-2 with one run scored.
Cassidy Bagnell went 1-for-3.
GAME 2 University of Mary 2 AU 13 F/5
AU grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Marauders made it a 3-2 ballgame in the top of the second inning.
Lalaina Baker scored after Kaitlyn McLaughlin reached on a fielder's choice to third base. Jiana Cota then singled through the right side to bring home Cassidy Bagnell.
The Vikings extended their lead to 5-2 after scoring one run in the second and third innings. AU exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 13-2 lead. UMary did not score in the fifth inning, and the game ended in a Vikings victory.
The Marauders finished the game with eight hits and four walks, while the Vikings had 12 hits and five walks.
