Bismarck, N.D. -- Hosting their first matches of the season the University of Mary finished Friday night with a split. U-Mary started the day by falling 6-3 to Northern State and rebounded to defeat MSU Moorhead 5-4 to finish the night.
Northern State Match
Against Northern State (4-2, 3-2 NSIC), U-Mary got down earlier by dropping two of three doubles matches and were unable to close the gap in singles competition. The combination of Rachael Scott and Hallie Welk teamed up for the second time this season and was the lone pair to pick up a win for the Marauders. Sarah Janes and Hallie Welk, playing first and second singles respectively, each won their match-up. Janes made quick work of her opponent winning 6-0, 6-0. Welk also controlled her match-up winning 6-0, 6-2.

MSU Moorhead Match
The Marauders jumped on top by winning two of three doubles matches against Dragons (1-4, 0-4 NSIC) and never looked back. Janes teamed up with Kate O'Connell to win at #1 doubles. The pair is now 2-1 on the season. Welk was coupled with Rachael Scott in the second slot as they won 8-5. Welk and Scott are now 3-0 on the season. The Marauders 1-3 singles all won their matches. After both losing to Augustana, Janes and Welk have now won three straight. After losing to Northern State, O'Connell responded with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

“Number one and #2 singles dominated their opponents. Both Sarah and Hallie played exceptionally well. They moved their opponents on the court.”
“Number three singles was a long match. The games went to several deuces. Kate kept the ball in play to forced her opponent to make the errors. This was the match decided the win for us.”
