For the third time this season the University of Mary hosts a nationally ranked team at home. Coming off a two-game road trip to now start a two-game home stand, the Marauders face the 5th-ranked and Northern Sun North Division-leading Bulldogs from the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Nov. 9. Kickoff is set for 1 PM at the MDU Resources Bowl in Bismarck, ND.
NEW START TIME FOR TAILGATING, KICKOFF
Please note the 1 PM start time for the Marauders-Bulldogs football game. American Bank Center Tailgating begins at 11 AM with free food for the first 300 fans. With the sun setting earlier in the day and home basketball games this Saturday and home at 6 PM and 8 PM and volleyball and men's basketball next week, plans were made prior to the season to move up the start time. The four previous U-Mary home games this season featured a 2:30 PM start.
THE RECORDS
The Marauders are 5-4 overall and in the Northern Sun to stand tied for 4th in the league. UM is tied for third at 3-2 in NSIC North Division games... The Bulldogs are 8-1 overall and in the Northern Sun to stand tied for 2nd overall and is first in the NSIC North at 5-0.
LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders earned a 28-14 road win at Northern State University... In their final scheduled home game of the season, the Bulldogs routed the University of Minnesota Crookston 57-3.
LAST YEAR
U-Mary finished 4-7 overall in the NSIC and 1-6 in the NSIC North… Minnesota Duluth finished 10-2 overall, 10-1 in the NSIC (2nd overall) and 5-1 in the NSIC North Division (t-1st) and qualified for the NCAA playoffs.
HEAD COACHES
U-Mary's all-time winningest head coach, Myron Schulz owns a record of 102-59 in his 15th season at the helm of the Marauders. Synonymous with Marauders football, Schulz has been a member of U-Mary's coaching staff in 23 of the program's 26 seasons. He has directed the squad to six national tournament appearances and four conference titles. His teams owned a streak of nine straight winning seasons and the Marauders are 78-41 in conference games. Since starting the transition to the NCAA in 2005, U-Mary is 47-48. The Marauders are 33-37 in Northern Sun contests... After five seasons as the University of Minnesota Duluth offensive coordinator, Curt Wiese was named the Bulldogs head coach in Dec. 2012 and is in his first season. In five seasons as the OC, UMD was in the nation's top ten in scoring four times. His players have earned 15 All-American citations and the squad went 70-8 with two national championships. Prior to joining the UMD staff he was head coach at Marietta College in Ohio and posted a mark of 9-11 in two seasons at the helm (2006-07).
FINAL SEASON FOR SCHULZ
Marauders Head Coach Myron Schulz, the man most associated with University of Mary football and the longest-tenured coach in school history, is resigning his head coaching position effective at the end of the 2013 season. Entering his 15th season at the helm of the Marauders football team, Schulz will become a faculty member in U-Mary's Gary Tharaldson School of Business. As U-Mary prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary of Marauders football, Schulz starts his 23rd season as a member of the squad's coaching staff. His 102 wins are more than any other U-Mary head football coach. Schulz directed his teams to four conference crowns and six playoff appearances while posting nine straight winning seasons at the start of his tenure. Schulz will start his teaching duties at the completion of the football season. A search for a replacement will begin later in the fall with hopes to have a new coach in place shortly after the end of the 2013 schedule.
THE MARAUDERS-BULLDOGS SERIES HISTORY: In a series that began in 2006, the Bulldogs have won all six meetings. The first meeting was Sept. 9, 2006 and ended with a 42-14 UMD win. The Marauders had more 1st downs (20-18), more total yards (375-372) and more passing yards (314 to 246). UMD led 14-0 at intermission and built a 21-0 lead before U-Mary got on the board... In 2008, Minnesota Duluth claimed a 44-7 win at home, scoring 21 points in the opening quarter. RB Isaac Odim scored three TDs and DJ Winfield caught ten balls for 172 yards and a score.
Jamal Lomax scored the lone U-Mary touchdown and ran for 63 yards... In 2009, UMD rolled to a 35-7 win as Odim ran for four touchdowns and 187 yards on 14 carries. Overall UMD ran for 259 yards but passed for just 64 yards as Chase Vogler was only 5-of-12 for 53 yards. The Marauders managed 249 yards, led by Lomax with 109 yards rushing on 29 carries... In the 2010 meeting in Duluth, MN, #2 UMD played without All-American Isaac Odim but still rolled to a 49-0 win over the Marauders. The Bulldogs scored on their first three possessions of the game and rolled up 531 yards of offense, including 327 on the ground. The Marauders were limited to 235 yards offensively, including 83 on the ground.
Jamal Lomax ran for 65 yards to pace the Marauders.
Craig Bagnell completed 18-of-27 passes for 152 yards and
Bryan Sandy caught six balls for 47 yards. Marcus Parence led the defense with eight tackles. For UMD, Brad Foss ran for 121 yards and three touchdowns... 2011:
Tyler Steffan caught a school-record four touchdown passes and
Josh Edwards threw for 318 yards but the Marauders couldn't keep pace with the ground attack of #9 UMD in a 41-28 Bulldogs win. UMD ran for 410 of its 485 yards of offense, including a 75 yard touchdown run by Austin Sikorski on the second play of the game. He finished the day with 185 yards and three scores on 19 carries. The Marauders would match the Sikorski score on their first offensive play when Edwards hit Steffan on a 64-yard touchdown pass just 1:07 into the game. UMD then score the next 27 points. Edwards was 28-of-40 passes for 318 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions... 2012: #9 UMD ran for 270 yards and passed for 294 in a 53-14 home win over U-Mary. The Bulldogs scored the first 28 points before
Craig Bagnell scored late in the first half.
Evan Gross ran for 67 yards and
Dariouse Gravely added 57 to lead UM.

QUICK LOOK AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH BULLDOGS
Considered one of the nation's top programs, the University of Minnesota Duluth has a combined record of 70-8 and two national championships (2008, 2010) in the last six seasons since rejoining the Northern Sun in 2008. The win total leads all of NCAA Division II over that time period. UMD has also been ranked in the national poll throughout that whole time period also. Freshman Drew Bauer leads the Bulldogs offense, completing 63.8 per cent of his passes for 1,209 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has run for 528 yards and four scores. Austin Sikorski leads the team with 880 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns and Logan Lauters has added 649 and 11. Aaron Roth is the leading receiver with 34 catches for 283 yards and two scores and Zach Zweifel is at 31-394-5. LB Colby Ring leads the defense with 44 tackles and is second with 5.5 tackles for loss. DE Chris Vandervest has 10.5 tackles for loss, including 3.0 sacks. UMD leads the league in scoring (42.0 points/game) and rushing (290.9 yards/game) and is sixth in total offense (441.4 yards/game). UMD is third in scoring defense (17.6) and total defense (318.9) and second in rush defense (105.5).
LAST WEEK
The University of Mary scored on its first two possessions and the Marauders defense didn't allow any points until the final play of the game in a 28-14 win at Northern State University.
Vince Ferrante scored the first of his two touchdowns on a nine yard run at the 8:14 mark of the first quarter. The lead doubled to 14-0 when Alby Pope hauled in a 27 yard touchdown pass from
Craig Bagnell early in the second. After NSU cut its deficit in half on a blocked punt returned for a touchdown,
Nick Jolliffe caught a 13 yard touchdown pass from Bagnell with 27 seconds left before intermission. Ferrante scored for the second time of the day in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 28-7. The first U-Mary back to eclipse the century mark this season, Ferrante ran for 124 yards and two TDs on 17 carries and caught a 9 yard pass. Bagnell was 25-of-36 for 282 yards, two scores and two interceptions. The Marauders out-gained the Wolves 427-309. Â
100 AND COUNTING
Marauders head coach Myron Schulz captured his 100th win as U-Mary's head coach in the 45-10 Marauders win over Minot State University on Oct. 5, 2013. Schulz's first win was a 28-7 win at Southwest Minnesota State in the opening game of the 1999 season. The 25th win was a 28-27 home win over Jamestown College in 2001. His 50th win was a 32-8 home win over South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2004. The 75th win was a 37-13 win over Northern State at the Metrodome in the final game of the 2007 season. With the Marauders 28-14 win at Northern State, Schulz now has 102 wins.

Troy Guptill each earned a spot on the 26-man Capital One Academic All-District 3 team announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Among teams in the district (includes the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC)), only Minnesota State University with four selections had more than U-Mary.

A two-time all-conference performer and soon to be a three-time member of the Northern Sun All-Academic team, Oyloe holds a 3.85 grade point average in Business Administration. An all-region selection last year, Oyloe is the U-Mary career leader in tackled for loss with 38 and his 26 sacks ties him for second in school history. This season the Williston, ND, native has 47 tackles, including eight for loss.

Singer, an All-Northern Sun North Division first team choice last season, has a 3.92 GPA in Business Administration. This season he will be named to the NSIC all-academic team for the second straight year. The NSIC leader in tackles with 95, the Turtle Lake, ND, native is second in the league with 13.5 tackles for loss and fifth in sacks (5.5). Singer also has two interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

An Athletic Training student with a 3.77 GPA, Guptill will soon be named to the NSIC all-academic team. Third in the nation in sacks and the conference leader, the native of Quinn, SD, has trapped opposing quarterbacks 10.5 times this season. He is also the NSIC leader in tackles for loss (17.0) and forced fumbles (3) and has taken down the ball carrier 66 times this season.
All three now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-American honors.
BACK TO FORM
After losing the turnover battle in two straight losses and also committing more penalties that normal, the Marauders returned to form in U-Mary's 28-14 win at Northern State. Both the Marauders and the Wolves turned the ball over twice and U-Mary committed just four penalties for 26 yards.
CENTURY MARK
Vince Ferrante became the first U-Mary player to run for triple digits this season when he carried 17 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the Marauders 28-14 win at Northern State. The junior running back leads the team with 372 yards rushing this season. Averaging 5.0 yards per carry, Ferrante has three touchdowns on the ground in his first year at U-Mary. The transfer from Diablo County Community College also has 13 catches for 124 yards and a score.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS - NEARING 9,000
Already the first U-Mary quarterback to throw for over 8,000 yards in his career, senior signal caller
Craig Bagnell is on the precipice of became the first University of Mary quarterback to reach 9,000 passing yards. After throwing for 282 yards in a win at Northern State he is at a career total of 8,908. The Marauders career record holder for passing yardage and completions (730), the Polson, MT, native is one away from tying U-Mary Hall of Famer Chris Schwab's career mark of 73, set between 1996-99.
OYLOE SETS CAREER TACKLES FOR LOSS RECORD
With a fourth quarter quarterback sack in the win at Northern State, senior defensive end
John Oyloe became the Marauders career leader in tackles for loss with 39. He passes Brooks Laber for the top spot. Laber (2001-05) finished his career with 38.5 tackles behind the line.
OYLOE MOVES UP THE SACK CHART
Following a sack at Northern State,
John Oyloe is tied with John Aman (1991-95) for second on the Marauders career list with 26. The senior defensive lineman from Williston, ND, only trails David St. Clair (1998-99), who sits atop the chart with 30. Oyloe passed three players this season on the sack list, Jon Ahneman (24), Nikia Parson (20 sacks), Brooks Laber (19.5) and Mike Jaskolski (19).
TAKEAWAY TITANS
The University of Mary has forced 23 turnovers this season to rank 27th in NCAA Division II and third in the Northern Sun. The Marauders have recovered nine fumbles and intercepted 14 passes. U-Mary is 55th nationally in fumbles recovered and 23rd in interceptions.

Troy Guptill leads the NSIC and is 8th in the country with 17.0 tackles behind the line (1.9/game). With two games left in the season Guptill is 4th on the Marauders single season list, trailing Brent Johnson's 22 in 1998, Jason Davis (20 in 1998) and Brooks Laber (17.5 in 2004).

DEFENSIVE TURNAROUND
U-Mary has made significant strides defensively from last season. In 2012 the Marauders defense allowed 35 points, 160.5 yards rushing, 295.5 yards passing and 456 total yards per game. This season U-Mary is giving up 24 points, 168.3 yards rushing, 209.4 yards passing and 377.8 total yards per game. U-Mary ranked last in passing yardage allowed, next to last in total yardage allowed and 11th in points allowed in 2012. This season the Marauders are fifth in scoring defense, 8th in pass defense and 8th in total defense.
TURNOVER TURNAROUND
in 2012 U-Mary forced 20 turnovers through 11 contests. This year through eight games the Marauders have 23 takeaways.
SMART BALL
The Marauders are committing just 5.11 penalties for 43.2 penalty yards a game, 21st and 18th in the NCAA in each category, respectively. This is a marked improvement from last year when the Marauders were penalized 61.5 yards per game, one of the worst figures in the league.

With 12 touchdown receptions in nine games,
Nick Jolliffe is fifth in the nation and second in the Northern Sun. The junior has caught a scoring pass in 7-of-9 games and had two or more in a contest four times. With 56 catches for 765 yards, he is fourth in the league in receptions/game (6.22) and fourth in receiving yardage/game (85).

Grant Singer is having another tremendous season. The junior from Turtle Lake, ND, leads the Northern Sun in tackles with 95, is second to teammate
Troy Guptill in tackles for loss (13.5), second in fumble recoveries (3) and fifth in sacks (5.5). Singer had the defensive play of the year in the win over Sioux Falls. With the Cougars at the Marauders seven yard line and threatening to take a lead in the second quarter, a blindside blitz by Singer separated the quarterback from the ball. Defensive lineman
Tylar Kist recovered the fumble and U-Mary remained in the lead. Singer posted a season-high 15 tackles at Upper Iowa and at MSU Moorhead and has three double-digit tackle performances this season. Â
BIG HITTER - #3 NCAA SACK LEADER
A devastating force on defense, JR LB
Troy Guptill leads the NSIC in sacks (10.5), tackles for loss (17.0) and forced fumbles (3). Guptill posted career-highs with three sacks and 12 tackles at Upper Iowa (he also had 12 tackles at MSU Moorhead). He was the NSIC Player of the Week for his efforts in the Marauders win at Wayne State, after he forced two fumbles and make three tackles for loss. Currently Guptill is third in NCAA Division II in sacks.
TESCHER THE TERRIFIC
Preston Tescher continues to have a terrific sophomore season, posting big plays on defense and special teams. The Bismarck, ND, native has three interceptions,four pass breakups, a fumble recovery, two blocked punts and is fourth on the team in tackles with 52. His biggest day came against Minot State. In the Marauders 45-10 win, Tescher blocked a punt to set up a touchdown, downed a punt at the one yard line, recovered a fumbled punt to set up another score, made a special teams tackle and had five total tackles in the game.

Behind the booming leg of
Tyler Ryan, the Marauders have displayed tremendous kick coverage. U-Mary is allowing just 19.4 yards per kickoff return on 22 attempts, sixth in the NSIC. The Marauders are second in the league in net yards punting at 37.1 yards/punt. Ryan is fourth in the NSIC in punting at 40.0 yards per attempt. Opposing teams have returned 22 for just 82 yards, an average of 3.5 yards/return. Ryan has dropped 21 of his 58 punts inside the opponents' 21 yard line and has 19 touchbacks on kickoffs. The Marauders all-conference kicker is a three-time NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week (twice in 2013) and a D2Football.Com National Special Teams Player of the Week this season.
