The Marauders dropped a 48-41 road decision to MSU Moorhead in the eighth annual "Battle for the Paddle"... The Wolves were routed 64-7 at #22 St. Cloud State.

U-Mary finished 4-7 overall in the NSIC and 1-6 in the NSIC North… Northern State finished 6-5 overall, 6-5 in the NSIC (7th overall) and 5-2 in the NSIC North Division (t-3rd).
HEAD COACHES
U-Mary's all-time winningest head coach, Myron Schulz owns a record of 101-59 in his 15th season at the helm of the Marauders. Synonymous with Marauders football, Schulz has been a member of U-Mary's coaching staff in 23 of the program's 26 seasons. He has directed the squad to six national tournament appearances and four conference titles. His teams owned a streak of nine straight winning seasons and the Marauders are 76-41 in conference games. Since starting the transition to the NCAA in 2005, U-Mary is 46-48. The Marauders are 32-37 in Northern Sun contests... Tom Dosch is in his fourth season as head coach of Northern State University and is the school's 26th head football coach. He has a 16-25 record with the Wolves. Last season Dosch directed NSU to a 6-5 mark, the program's first winning season since 2005. A 1992 Dickinson State University graduate, he is a member of the Blue Hawks Hall of Fame. After beginning his coaching career at DSU, he coached ten seasons at the University of North Dakota before becoming the Jamestown College head coach. The Jimmies posted a 25-17 record with two trips to the NAIA playoffs. He then spent two seasons at Southern Illinois before joining NSU for the 2010 season.

FINAL SEASON FOR SCHULZ
Marauders Head Coach Myron Schulz, the man most associated with University of Mary football and the longest-tenured coach in school history, is resigning his head coaching position effective at the end of the 2013 season. Entering his 15th season at the helm of the Marauders football team, Schulz will become a faculty member in U-Mary's Gary Tharaldson School of Business. As U-Mary prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary of Marauders football, Schulz starts his 23rd season as a member of the squad's coaching staff. His 101 wins are more than any other U-Mary head football coach. Schulz directed his teams to four conference crowns and six playoff appearances while posting nine straight winning seasons at the start of his tenure. Schulz will start his teaching duties at the completion of the football season. A search for a replacement will begin later in the fall with hopes to have a new coach in place shortly after the end of the 2013 schedule.
THE MARAUDERS-WOLVES SERIES HISTORY: In a series that began in 2006, the Marauders claimed the first five meetings before the Wolves won the last two. Despite the fact NSU was virtually U-Mary's closest rival prior to Minot State University joining the Northern Sun, the first two meetings took place at the Metrodome... 2006: U-Mary captured the first contest between the two schools 20-7 as Justin Fleck scored two touchdowns while the Wolves were limited to 27 yards rushing... 2007: The Marauders cruised past the Wolves 37-13 behind two Mike Williams scores and 418 yards passing by Blair Sandy... 2008: The first meeting on a home field, with NSU getting first crack to host the game. A last-second touchdown pass from Jesse Kozak to Allen Merrill set up a walk-off overtime touchdown by
Jamal Lomax in a 34-31 Marauders win. Erik Kruse caught a school-record 13 passes for 110 yards, Lomax ran for 114 yards and Kozak passed for 298 yards... 2009: In the first game played in Bismarck, ND, Lomax scored the winning touchdown with 11 minutes left in the game and set a U-Mary single game school record when he ran for 248 yards in the win. He rushed for 146 yards in the fourth quarter alone. The game featured four lead changes and two ties. U-Mary dominated the fourth quarter, holding a 163-32 edge in yards and possessing the ball for 11:26 of the final 15 minutes... 2010: Lomax continued to torture the Wolves, rushing for 105 yards and three touchdowns.
Tyler Steffan caught 10 passes for 222 yards and one score to earn NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Craig Bagnell passed for 281 yards and three TDs. The Marauders defense intercepted four passes and limited the Wolves to 66 yards passing and 219 yards... 2011: Josh Murray ran for 163 yards and scored three touchdowns and
Craig Bagnell threw for 232 yards and a score but Northern State scored the final 10 points of the game to win 39-36. Felipe Alfaia converted a 35 yard field goal as time expired to give the Wolves their first win over the Marauders. Jared Jacobson ran for 180 yards and three TDs and passed for another 136 yards to lead the NSU offense and Kristin James added another 139 yards for the Wolves... 2012: U-Mary jumped out to a 14-3 lead but Northern State University responded by scoring 55 straight points as the Wolves defeated the Marauders 65-17. This was the most points allowed by U-Mary in school history.
Elby Pope caught seven passes for 109 yards and a TD to lead U-Mary. Bagnell passed for 201 yards and two scores.
Mikey Ingemansen had two sacks for UM. Jared Jacobson threw for 422 yards and three scores and Chris Morton caught six passes for 148 yards and three scores.

QUICK LOOK AT NORTHERN STATE WOLVES
Coming off its first winning season since 2005 Northern State University hoped to take another step forward this season. However the Wolves lost two close home games (24-17 to Upper Iowa and 47-46 to MSU Moorhead. The Wolves are coming off their worst game of the season, a 65-7 loss at #22 St. Cloud State. Junior quarterback Jared Jacobson, who has terrorized the Marauders defense the last two seasons, leads the 3-5 Northern State squad. Jacobson ran for 180 yards and three scores and passed for 136 yards in a Northern State win over U-Mary in 2011. In last year's Wolves win he passed for 422 yards and three scores. Jacobson leads his team in rushing with 409 yards and four touchdowns and has is completing 48.6 per cent of his passes for 1,439 yards with 15 TDs and 10 interceptions. Tanner White is the leading receiver with 29 catches for 370 yards and three TDs and Conner Doherty is at 27-362-3. Sophomore CB Blaine Schmidt leads the defense with 49 tackles. He also has two tackles for loss, two interceptions and six pass breakups. Senior safety Logan Dosch has 43 tackles, including four for loss, and four pass breakups. Junior inside linebacker Devin Olson leads the squad with five tackles behind the line. Â
LAST WEEK
An early deficit eventually doomed the University of Mary in a 48-41 road loss in the Battle for the Paddle against MSU Moorhead. Trailing by 27 in the first half, the Marauders would tie the game 41-41 but U-Mary lost the Paddle Trophy game for the first time after winning the first seven games. The Marauders drew even when

Nick Jolliffe from 16 yards out with 9:29 left in the game. The Dragons won the game on a 39-yard Ryan Toelle to Adam Jiskra touchdown pass with 6:50 remaining. The Marauders had two more possessions but couldn't get into the end zone... Despite a slow start, the Marauders compiled 31 first downs and 522 yards of offense, both season-highs. The Dragons had 582 yards of offense on 99 plays, including 416 passing...
Craig Bagnell tied a school record for completions, connecting on 34-of-57 passes for 399 yards and five touchdown passes. His lone interception of the day came on the Marauders final offensive play of the day with 12 seconds remaining.
Nick Jolliffe set career marks with 12 catches for 148 yards and two TDs.
Vince Ferrante ran eight times for 71 yards and caught four passs for 39 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown. Jiskra caught seven passes for 131 yards and two scores for the Dragons and Cory Ambrose had seven grabs for 136 yards and one touchdown. MSUM quarterback Jake Hodge was 15-of-25 for 301 yards, passing for three scores and running for two, all in the first half before getting injured. 100 AND COUNTING
Marauders head coach Myron Schulz captured his 100th win as U-Mary's head coach in the 45-10 Marauders win over Minot State University on Oct. 5, 2013. Schulz's first win was a 28-7 win at Southwest Minnesota State in the opening game of the 1999 season. The 25th win was a 28-27 home win over Jamestown College in 2001. His 50th win was a 32-8 home win over South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2004. The 75th win was a 37-13 win over Northern State at the Metrodome in the final game of the 2007 season. With the Marauders 26-17 win at Bemidji State, Schulz now has 101 wins.
TROPHY STREAK SNAPPED
The Marauders saw their perfect record in eight trophy games snapped with the loss at MSU Moorhead. U-Mary had won the first seven Paddle Trophy games. U-Mary also won the first Battle for the Big Lake trophy game earlier this season against Minot State University.
AGAINST TYPE
One of the nation's leaders in turnover margin and for fewest penalty yardage, the Marauders lost the turnover battle 1-0 and double its penalty yardage average with eight infractions for 80 yards in the 48-41 loss to MSU Moorhead.
COMPLETION RECORD BROKEN - GAME
Craig Bagnell tied the school individual single-game completion mark when he connected on 34-of-57 passes for 399 yards and five touchdowns against MSU Moorhead on Oct. 26. The 34 completions tied the mark set by Henry Lau against Wayne State College on Nov. 11, 2008. Â
COMPLETION RECORD - SEASON
Craig Bagnell is approaching the single season completion record of 217 by Blair Sandy in 2007. The senior from Polson, MT, is currently at 200 completions.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS - CRACKING 8,000
Craig Bagnell became the first University of Mary quarterback to pass for over 8,000 yards when hit for 264 yards against St. Cloud State. His current career total is 8,626. Bagnell set the school career passing yardage mark the week before when he threw for 311 yards in a win at Bemidji State. The previous record-holder was Marauders Hall of Famer Chris Schwab (1996-99), who threw for 7,786 yards. Earlier this season the Polson, MT, native passed Schwab for the career completions record with his final connection of the day at Upper Iowa and now leads 671 to 607. Schwab still holds the career passing touchdowns mark 73 to 70 over a hard-charging Bagnell, who has three games left in his collegiate career. Â
CLIMBING THE CHARTS II
John Oyloe also has a chance to move into the top career slot in tackles for loss and sacks. With 38 TFL, the senior trails only Brooks Laber (2001-05) with 38.5. Oyloe is third in career sacks with 25. David St. Clair (1998-99) leads with 30. Oyloe passed three players this season on the sack list, Jon Ahneman (24), Nikia Parson (20 sacks), Brooks Laber (19.5) and Mike Jaskolski (19).
TAKEAWAY TITANS
Despite not forcing any turnovers the past two weeks in losses to #25 St. Cloud State and MSU Moorhead, the University of Mary has forced 21 turnovers this season, 22nd in NCAA Division II and third in the Northern Sun. The Marauders have recovered nine fumbles and intercepted 12 passes. U-Mary is 37th nationally in fumbles recovered and 22nd in interceptions.
THE PLUS COLUMN
The Marauders are 15th in the nation in turnover margin with a +10 through eight games. U-Mary has taken the ball away 21 times and have turned it over 11 times.
SACK ATTACK
After posting a five-year-high in sacks with seven at Bemidji State, followed by four sacks in each of the two following games, U-Mary leads the NSIC and is 10th in the country with 28, or 3.50 sacks/game. Â

Troy Guptill is 3rd in the country with 17.0 tackles behind the line (2.1/game). With three games left in the season Guptill is 4th on the Marauders single season list, trailing Brent Johnson's 22 in 1998, Jason Davis (20 in 1998) and Brooks Laber (17.5 in 2004).
BEHIND THE LINE 2
Grant Singer is second in the NSIC and 20th in the NCAA in tackles for loss with 1.7 per game. The junior linebacker has 13.5 TFL.
DEFENSIVE TURNAROUND
U-Mary has made significant strides defensively from last season. In 2012 the Marauders defense allowed 35 points, 160.5 yards rushing, 295.5 yards passing and 456 total yards per game. This season U-Mary is giving up 25.2 points, 171.6 yards rushing, 214.8 yards passing and 386.4 total yards per game. U-Mary ranked last in passing yardage allowed, next to last in total yardage allowed and 11th in points allowed in 2012. This season the Marauders are fifth in scoring defense, 8th in pass defense and 9th in total defense.
TURNOVER TURNAROUND
in 2012 U-Mary forced 20 turnovers through 11 contests. This year through eight games the Marauders have 21 takeaways.
SMART BALL
The Marauders are committing just 5.25 penalties for 45.4 penalty yards a game, 20th and 19th in the NCAA in each category, respectively. This is a marked improvement from last year when the Marauders were penalized 61.5 yards per game, one of the worst figures in the league.

HITTING THE HIGH NOTES

Grant Singer is having another tremendous season. The junior from Turtle Lake, ND, leads the Northern Sun in tackles with 87, second to teammate
Troy Guptill in tackles for loss (13.5), second in fumble recoveries (3), fifth in sacks (5.5)and ninth in interceptions (2). Singer had the defensive play of the year in the win over Sioux Falls. With the Cougars at the Marauders seven yard line and threatening to take a lead in the second quarter, a blindside blitz by Singer separated the quarterback from the ball. Defensive lineman
Tylar Kist recovered the fumble and U-Mary remained in the lead. Singer posted a season-high 15 tackles at Upper Iowa and at MSU Moorhead and has three double-digit tackle performances this season. Â
BIG HITTER - NCAA SACK LEADER
A devastating force on defense, JR LB
Troy Guptill leads the NSIC in sacks (10.5), tackles for loss (17.0) and forced fumbles (3). Guptill posted career-highs with three sacks and 12 tackles at Upper Iowa (he also had 12 tackles at MSU Moorhead). He was the NSIC Player of the Week for his efforts in the Marauders win at Wayne State, after he forced two fumbles and make three tackles for loss. Currently Guptill is tied for the NCAA lead in sacks.
TESCHER THE TERRIFIC
Preston Tescher continues to have a terrific sophomore season, posting big plays on defense and special teams. The Bismarck, ND, native has two interceptions,four pass breakups, a fumble recovery, two blocked punts and is fourth on the team in tackles with 52. His biggest day came against Minot State. In the Marauders 45-10 win, Tescher blocked a punt to set up a touchdown, downed a punt at the one yard line, recovered a fumbled punt to set up another score, made a special teams tackle and had five total tackles in the game.

Behind the booming leg of
Tyler Ryan, the Marauders have displayed tremendous kick coverage. U-Mary is allowing just 19.4 yards per kickoff return on 20 attempts, sixth in the NSIC. The Marauders lead the league in net yards punting at 38.7 yards/punt. Ryan is third in the NSIC in punting at 39.8 yards per attempt. Opposing teams have returned 20 for just 59 yards, an average of 1.9 yards/return. Ryan has dropped 21 of his 56 punts inside the opponents' 21 yard line and has 16 touchbacks on kickoffs. The Marauders all-conference kicker is a three-time NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week (twice in 2013) and a D2Football.Com National Special Teams Player of the Week this season.
