Box Score Lacey, WA—Scoreless at intermission, an action packed second period between the University of Mary and Saint Martin's University (5-8-2, 5-4-2) ended in a draw in GNAC men's soccer action Saturday afternoon. U-Mary held a 4-1 lead late, but surrendered three goals in the final 11 minutes of the match that eventually ended in a 4-4 stalemate.
Jordan Pearce had the first multi-goal game of his career as he scored the first two goals of the game to give the Marauders a 2-0 lead. Not to be outdone,
Rory Pratt, had the first multi-assist game of his career and added a goal in the 66th minute that increased U-Mary's lead to 3-1.
Freshman
Aaron Brennan also had his first multi-goal game assisting on the Marauders first and third goals.
In the 77th minute Pratt found
Aaron Mc Elwee on a cross to the top of the eight-yard box and Mc Elwee did the rest giving the Marauders a commanding 4-1 lead.
Down but not out, Saint Martin's rallied to score two goals with less than five minute elapsing on the game clock. Both shots came from close range and with the goals the Saints pulled the match to within one.
SMU kept the pressure on with a shot on goal in the 83rd minute that was stopped by
Jack West. In less than a minute span between the 85th and 86th minute the Saints attempted three corner kicks, none of which they were able turn into a shot attempt. The Saints got another corner attempt in the 88th minute, this time it led to a header that missed high. Finally in the 89th minute SMU broke through scoring off of their fifth corner attempt in a span of just over four minutes. The corner was headed by Luke Chouinard to tie the match at 4-4 sending it into overtime.
After a slow first period, the second period saw a combined 22 shots and nine corners. U-Mary connected on all four of its shots on goal in the second period, while SMU connected on four of nine.
In the first overtime period the Saints were unable to manage a shot. The Marauders threatened in the 99th minute as Pearce headed a ball towards the goal that was ultimately saved by an SMU defender.
U-Mary attempted two shots in the second overtime, neither of which were on goal. The Saints attempted a shot in the 108th minute that missed wide right as the game went on to end 4-4 in double overtime.
The Marauders (1-10-2, 1-8-2) will be at home next weekend to play their final two home games of the season as they host Northwest Nazarene on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Montana State University-Billings on Saturday at 1 p.m.
