Box Score Minot, N.D. — Looking to avenge their 74-73 loss to Minot State (8-6, 4-6 NSIC) on Dec. 1, U-Mary responded with a 70-58 victory. Starting out slow the Marauders exploded in the second half scoring 45 points on 58 percent shooting from the field.
Ali Collins was dominant for the Marauders scoring 24 points on 10-15 shooting and pulling in a career-high 14 rebounds. Playing 39 minutes, Collins also added five assists and two blocked shots.
After scoring 31 points in their matchup back in December, Carly Boag came up with another impressive performance finishing the game with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Despite Boag's inside presence, U-Mary controlled the paint outscoring Minot State 34-14 from inside. The Marauders also held a comfortable lead in the rebounding battle, 48-39. However, 17 of the Beavers 39 rebounds were offensive, which led to 15 second half points.
Both teams started out slow offensively in the first half. The Marauders were hampered by turnovers (10) and the Beavers by poor shooing (.206). U-Mary crept their way to a 10-3 after
Shaunna Knife knocked down a three at the 15:36 mark. Seven would be the largest lead of the half for the Marauders and they entered the break up 25-24.
The Marauders came out strong in the second half starting on an 8-0 run on 4-4 shooting. U-Mary allowed Minot State to pull within one multiple times, but managed to maintain the lead throughout. Up by nine late in the game Knife came up big with a steal and a three to put the Marauders up 64-52 with 2:02 remaining. Knife's shot proved to be the dagger as U-Mary cruised to a 70-58 win. Scoring all 12 of her points in the period,
Lindsey Sand sparked the Marauders off the bench in the second half shooting 4-5 from the field and 4-5 from the line.
U-Mary took better care of the ball in the second half not committing their first turnover until the 10:39 mark and finishing the half with just five.
For the game the Marauders outshot the Beavers 50-26 percent from the field. Both U-Mary and Minot State struggled from deep shooting 4-13 and 1-19 respectively.
Knife was the only other player to score in double digits for the Marauders finishing with 10 points and five rebounds.
Shanara Clark and
Laura Petersen each added eight points for U-Mary. Making her first appearance since Jan. 5,
Kaitlyn Haag was effective scoring four points and grabbing two rebounds in eight minutes.
U-Mary (11-5, 6-4 NSIC) will be back in action on Friday as they remain on the road to take on #12 Augustana.
