QUICK LOOK AT THE WINONA STATE WARRIORS: Consistently one of the top contending teams in the Northern Sun, Winona State is led by RB Rayon Simmons, who needs just 47 yards to set the Warriors all-time career rushing record. After cracking 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons, Simmons sits at 3,817 career yards. The senior has cracked the century mark in a game 16 times with the Warriors winning 15. Strong up front, the Warriors have two juniors, Richard Lilla and Cory Christianson, have started since they were freshman. Defensively, the Warriors return five players that earned postseason honors in 2012, led by Ryan Gerts, the league's defensive newcomer of the year last season. Through three games the Warriors are 22nd in the nation in pass defense, allowing 150 yards per game. Head coach Tom Sawyer is in his 17th season at Winona State and the Warriors have posted 15 straight winning seasons.
LAST WEEK: Down by a touchdown after three quarters, the Marauders exploded for 26 points in the final period of football at Southwest Minnesota State. Nick Jolliffee caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from
Craig Bagnell to even the score at 24-24. After the defense forced a 3-and-out by the Mustangs, the Marauders took over at their own 41. Four plays later in his first action of the season,
Dariouse Gravely found a seam on the left side and burst 44 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. He finished the day with 150 yards rushing. U-Mary extended its lead when
Bryan Sandy hauled in a six yard touchdown with 4:16 remaining. An interception by Craig Jeffrey sealed the win for the Marauders. His return to the SMSU 11 yard line set up a nine yard
Evan Gross touchdown run with 2:53 in the game. Bagnell threw for 199 yards and three scores. He also ran for U-Mary's opening touchdown of the day. Three different players caught touchdowns. Dariouse Gravely ran for 150 yards on 26 carries. He scored the game-winning touchdown on a 44 yard sprint in the fourth quarter. The total is a career high for Gravely, who's previous best was 108 yards at Minnesota Crookston last season.
20 TO 229: In the first two games of the season the Marauders combined for 20 yards rushing. U-Mary increased its season total by more than ten-fold at Southwest Minnesota State, gashing the Mustangs defense for 229 yards rushing. After missing the first two games of the season
Dariouse Gravely ran for 150 yards.
Evan Gross added 74. Both scored touchdowns.

MY BALL: In three games the Marauders have collected nine turnovers. The Marauders defense recorded five takeaways against Concordia University, three against Augustana and one at SMSU. U-Mary has collected seven interceptions and recovered two fumbles. U-Mary won the takeaway battle in the first two games and is both games and is plus two on the season.

Even more players were involved in game two against Augustana as eight Marauders caught passes. Three different players accounted for the four touchdown passes. At SMSU, six players caught passes and three caught touchdowns.

HELMET LOGO: After about two decades of wearing plain shiny blue buckets, the Marauders will sport a new look this fall. The new orange and white helmet logo features a side-by-side block U and M inside an oval, with the U just slightly elevated above the M. The bright royal blue Marauders helmets provide great contrast to the orange and white of the letters. This is just the third different helmet sported by U-Mary. Beginning in 1987, the Marauders original football helmet was white with the signature University of Mary “M” in blue and orange. In the early 1990s, former head coach Tom Shea switched the Marauders look to the royal blue helmet worn by U-Mary through 2011. The three-color UM logo will also be used elsewhere on campus as a secondary logo to the orange and black Marauders head. Designed by Laura Scott, U-Mary's Coordinator for Graphic Design and E-Communications, the new UM replaces the thin interlocking UM.
