Second Half Goals Cost Marauders in Loss to Roadrunners

Roadrunners Score Twice in Second Half to Down Marauders 3-0

Box Score Fayette, IA – Facing off against one of the top teams in the nation, the University of Mary held tight against Metro State College for the first 65 minutes in a 3-0 loss. The Roadrunners, who are receiving votes in the national poll, sealed their win over the Marauders with two goals midway through the second half.
 
U-Mary (0-2) opened with a flurry of shots against MSC (2-0) goalkeeper Shailer Thomas in the first two minutes of play. The Marauders missed the frame on their first two attempts before Thomas was forced to make a save on a shot by Rory Pratt.
 
The Marauders defense then withstood a barrage of five corner kicks by the Roadrunners in a span covering 3:18. Metro State finally broke through off another corner attempt when Andy Lopez scored on a header at 30:12 on a ball triggered by Dustin Berg and assisted by Jeremy Brooks.
 
The Roadrunners would double their lead on a goal by Marc Herschberger in the 66th minute. MSC sealed the game on Brenden Hughes tally in the 77th minute.
 
Pratt led the Marauders with three shots on goal and tied Adam Potter with two shots on net.
 
Michael Frenzel for U-Mary and Thomas both had four saves in the game.
 
The Roadrunners held a 14-8 advantage in shots, a 7-4 edge in shots on frame and a massive 11-1 lead in corner kicks.
 
The Marauders open their home schedule against Rocky Mountain College on Friday, September 7, at 7 PM in Mandan, ND.
