GAME NOTES (PDF)

LAST WEEK: On Thursday (9/13) the Marauders opened up their inaugural season as a member of the GNAC. U-Mary went out to Washington to take on Saint Martin's University and #2 Seattle Pacific University. On Thursday (9/15) the Marauders, in their first ever conference game, took on Saint Martin's University. The scoring was started by sophomore F Rory Pratt in the 75th minute to give U-Mary a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later freshman F Dace Moerkerke added some insurance as the Marauders went on to win 2-0. Senior GK Michael Frenzel recorded his third career shutout in the win over Saint Martin's. The second game on the weekend pitted the Marauders against #2 Seattle Pacific University (9/15). After allowing an early goal, U-Mary proved they could play with SPU as they entered the half trailing just 1-0. Midway through the second half the Marauders would give up two goals to make the score 3-0. Late in the second half U-Mary freshman M Jonathon Sellars added a goal; the Marauders went on to fall 3-1.

THIS WEEK: U-Mary will begin a four-game conference homestretch. The stretch will begin with Western Washington University (9/20) and Simon Fraser University (9/22).

MAKING HISTORY: Thursday (9/13) marked a historic day for the University of Mary. In one of the longest-awaited days in the history of Marauders' soccer, the team won their first-ever conference match, defeating Saint Martin's University 2-0. Playing in their first game as a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, the Marauders had been competing without any conference affiliation since the men's soccer program was established in 1995.

Western Washington is off to a 3-2-1 start (1-0-1 GNAC). On the year the Vikings have played opponents evenly as they have given up as many goals (5) as they have scored. WWU has been paced this year by All-GNAC honorable mention GK Keegan Rogers. Rogers, just a sophomore, already has three shutouts on the season. The Marauders have never beaten Western Washington (0-2-1). The last time these two teams played was in 2010 with U-Mary falling 5-0.

Simon Fraser is off to a 5-1 start (1-1-0 GNAC). SFU's high-powered offense has outscored opponents by an impressive 21-5 margin. SFU is coming off of their first conference loss since Nov. 21, 2010 ending a record 24-game streak. The Clan are led by All-American F Carlo Basso, who has seven goals on the season. Basso, a junior, was named GNAC Co-Player of the year last year. With the lone game in the series coming in 2010, the Clan defeated the Marauders 2-0.

ON DECK: The Marauders will finish up their homestretch next weekend as they take on Northwest Nazarene University (9/27) and Montana State-Billings (9/29). Last year U-Mary went on the road and battled Nazarene to a 1-1 tie. As for Montana State, the Marauders fell 1-0 at home.
