LAST WEEK: U-Mary made its home debut last weekend (9/7) against Rocky Mountain College. After 110 minutes of tightly-contested physical play, the Marauders and Battlin' Bears played to a 3-3 tie. The Marauders finished the weekend (9/9) on a high note defeating South Dakota School of Mines and Technology 2-0. The Marauders controlled the tempo throughout and earned their first win of the season. With the win senior GK,
Michael Frenzel, recorded his second career shutout.
FRESH FACES: So far this season the Marauders have experimented with the lineup as only five field players have started every game. Of those five starters, not one of them was on last years roster. Newcomer
Rory Pratt is the lone Marauder to have a multi-goal game as he scored a pair in the home-opener against Rocky Mountain College.
FAMILIAR FACES: Even with all of the roster changes, Marauders fans will recognize a few players seeing significant minutes. In net senior GK
Michael Frenzel has started all four games for U-Mary. Sophomore M
Joe Wood, has started three games and has played the fifth most minutes. Wood is the only returner to score a goal this season. Returners junior D
Kyle Roesler, and sophomore M
Aaron Mc Elwee, have also started three games each.
THIS WEEK: The Marauders men will open up GNAC play this weekend as they head out to Washington. This game will mark the first conference game played in the history of men's soccer at U-Mary. On Friday (9/13) the Marauders will take on Saint Martin's University and will wrap up the weekend on Sunday (9/15) against #2 Seattle Pacific University.
SAINT MARTIN'S is off to a tough 1-3 start to the season. The Saints have been outscored 11-4 on the year and their lone win came against Colorado Christian 3-0. The Saints are led offensively by junior F Dylan Gaydosh, and defensively by senior D Brandon Scott, who each earned All-GNAC honorable mention last year. The last time Saint Martin's and U-Mary played was in 2010; the Marauders fell 2-0.
SEATTLE PACIFIC is off to a 3-0 start including an OT win in its last game against Dixie State. On the season the Falcons have outscored opponents 8-3. Pacific is led offensively by senior F Elliot Morton, a fourth year starter and three time All-GNAC player. Defensively the Falcons are keyed by All-American's Zach Johnson, a senior keeper, and Jon Pearman, a senior defender. U-Mary is 0-3 against Seattle Pacific the last three years.
ON DECK: Starting next weekend, U-Mary will begin a four game conference homestretch. The stretch will begin with Western Washington University (9/20) and Simon Fraser University (9/22). Western Washington is 2-2 on the season and finished fifth in the GNAC in 2011. Defending champions, #12 Simon Fraser, are undefeated on the season.
