Four Upperclassmen Named 2012 Marauders Football Team Captains

Bismarck, ND – Four upperclassmen were tabbed as team captains for the 2012 University of Mary football team. Seniors Bryan Sandy and Mike Wagner and juniors Craig Bagnell and John Oyloe will share the team leadership roles for U-Mary as the Marauders prepare to open the regular season on Saturday.

The lone returning captain, Bagnell enters his third season as the Marauders starting quarterback.  A native of Polson, MT, Bagnell was named to the All-Northern Sun North second team in 2011 after directing a U-Mary offense that led the conference in scoring and set a single season team record for passing yardage. Despite missing three games due to injury he threw for 2,407 yards and 19 touchdowns, completing 166-of-250 passes (66.4 per cent) with just five interceptions. He also scored two rushing touchdowns. Bagnell posted a quarterback efficiency rating of 168.36, which would be the fifth best mark in the country if he had played in just one more game. Four times he threw for over 300 yards, including a career-high 403 yards at Southwest Minnesota State.

Known for his ability to make plays in the opponent's backfield, Oyloe led the Marauders and was third in the conference with six sacks to earn All-NSIC North second team honors in 2011. The defensive end from Williston, ND, was fifth in the NSIC with 13.5 tackles for loss in his first year as a starter. He was credited with 58 tackles, which was third on the team, and blocked two kicks. Oyloe also earned NSIC All-Academic honors.

An All-NSIC North honorable mention selection and a member of the NSIC All-Academic team, Sandy is a tight end who is used in multiple positions and formations. In his first season as a starter, the native of Harvey, ND, was third on the team in receptions with 28 for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Sandy averaged 12.6 yards per catch. Bryan's older brother Blair was a Marauders team captain in 2007.

Wagner, named a starting safety this year for the Marauders, saw significant playing time last season. A starter in a handful of games, the native of Killdeer, ND, recorded 22 tackles, including 15 solo stops and a tackle for loss, and intercepted one pass in 2011.

The Marauders go on the road to face Concordia University – St. Paul on Saturday, September 1. Kickoff is set for 1 PM.
