Bismarck, ND – A much-improved University of Mary women's tennis team closed out the 2012 schedule with a 9-0 home loss to Winona State University, the fifth-ranked team in the region.
 
After a winless season in 2011, the Marauders captured four victories this year, including two conference wins. U-Mary also suffered two narrow one-point losses on the season. Coming off a last-place finish in the NSIC, the Marauders will move up at least two slots in the 2012 conference standings.
 
While the Marauders were shut out by the powerful Warriors, it was just the fourth time U-Mary was blanked this season. The squad was held scoreless nine times in 2011, another indication of the squad's improvement.
 
Rachel Brown led U-Mary with seven individual wins. Seniors Megan Bosch captured five wins and Brianna Thomas added four. Julia Amundson also had four wins for the Marauders. In doubles play, Brown, Bosch, freshman Rachel Phelps and senior Amanda Hennessy were each involved in four wins.

Brown, Amundson, Phelps, and Ashley Tuschling all return next season for the Marauders.
 
The Marauders close the year 4-10 overall and 2-8 in the NSIC. The Warriors improve to 15-2 and 9-1.
